Can anybody tell me what this is? It was about half the size of a dollar bill, and I found it after I apparently backed through half of its web in my driveway. I saw it via backlighting as I was about to walk through the web to check my mail.
The top of the web was anchored to a tree branch 10 feet in the air and the bottom was anchored to my driveway. I watched him for about 5 minutes as he packed his web back in and headed back up to the branch. It was about midnight.
I was happy not to have walked through one of those again. I stopped riding my bike on our walking trails after dark a few years ago because I had one of these bounce off of my face as I streaked through his web at about 10mph.
I've been told they are banana spiders, but can't confirm that.
