Please explain this attitude to me. Speak slowly and use small words. As Americans we belive that if you are attacked we should fight back not roll into a ball and surrender. Have the French taken over the UK?

That's the funniest, and most frightening, thing I have read in a while.

I love my home country with all my heart - but sometimes you can only see problems like this when you take a step back and look at it from afar. The Criminals have taken over. The legal system is a joke - you get some 14yo kid with a stanley knife wants to mug you and you know you cannot fight back for fear of being dealt with more harshly than the mugger himself!

People will argue against me carrying a gun in the UK saying; "Does a 14yo mugger deserve to be injured or killed?" WITHOUT taking a second to consider that an innocent man walking down the street is EVEN LESS deserving of that fate.

It's time to take your country BACK from the tofu-scoffing Politically-correct liberal feckers who would rahter have their faces slashed open than trample on the mugger's civil rights. Feck that. What kind of country is it when the innocent fear the police and the courts more than they fear the mugger? THAT is why violent crime in the UK is higher than the US!

I say this in the same tough love manner that I would my brother to "Get a freakin' bath because you're stinking up my house....." England - GROW A PAIR AND FIGHT BACK!!!

Thanks for the info Norm - I am going to use it in one of my classes - it should provoke some good discussion. I will of course give proper attribution and if someone asks me who I got it from I will tell them. Norm357. I can just see it now one of my students will ask, "This bloke's surname is 357????"

We had a siuation here locally where a 16 yr old girl at a mall ( by herself) was being followed and harassed by a hispanic male, age 35. He was asking her for sex and trying to kiss her in the MALL. She kept trying to avoid him and told him to leave her alone and he didn't. She got on her cell and called her dad who was at home about 2 miles away.

Dad responded PRONTO. ( Glad there wasn't any of my brethren in blue running speed enforcment along his route). Dad finds her with this character still following her and trying to kiss her. Dad GRABS this guy jerks him around and hauls off and nails him one in the face. Dad then holds him on the floor ( one hit only to the bad guy) for the PD.

PD arrive, arrest the bad guy for a host of charges and than tag dad for Simple Assault ( Misd 2nd) . Dad recently came up for trial and was offered a plea down to a Summary Harassment ticket but turned it down cold saying he did nothing wrong. He is going to trial this month.

I don't fully know the story but I think I will be on the dad's side on this one. I have a 16 yr old daughter and am tring to think if I would have done anything differently. I don't think so.

He didn't pound the guy into a pulp or kick him on the floor. This guy was repeatedly following his daughter asking for sex and trying to kiss her ! This loser of a guy is also an ilegal alien and is due to be deported whenver this case is done.

Will the father get a jury trial? If so you have to hope the jury takes a commonsense and not a purely legalistic approach to it.

The guy was following the girl in a threatning manner and not responding to verbal demands to stop. Next step up the citizen's continuum of force is to use limited physical force. Sounds like the dad did the right thing.

I'd be on the pop's side as well, don't know about your place, but most misdemeanors yeah you can request a trial by jury, but it'll usually only be done by 6 jurors. In this case, no matter how they aren't supposed to let this happen, I sincerely believe a jury would be sypethetic to the father and let him off.
