    Energy Drinks

Working long shifts and odd hours, what do you use to keep your energy up besides coffee? I can't force myself to drink coffee so I wanted to look into other options.

12+ shifts is usually a few cans of Monster Khaos and Assult. During flights I started using that 5 hour energy stuff which works wonders. However, first few times you try any energy drink, consume about half the can/bottle and wait for an hour to see if you get the jitters or a spike in your temp.
Also to help keep you awake, stay away from heavy foods such as burgers, breads, cookies, etc. Munch on veggies, fruits and or nuts. Trail mix is a good option.

I'm partial to mixing house coffee (or the heavily leaded stuff if I'm really dragging) with something from the cappuccino machine at the local gas station. I like the taste and for 87 cents it works for me.

As far as energy drinks...I'll drink an Amp or Monster. Starbucks coffee mocha's with expresso are a good choice too. I try not to drink them that often, don't like the "shakes" I tend to get from some of them.

Everything has a cost/benefit ratio. Either you can pay now and benefit later.. or you can benefit now and pay later. Later is always more expensive. There ain't no free lunch.

IMHO, energy drinks are crap. They are unhealthy if used regularly.

I'm old school. If I really need a boost, I go to a local diner chain that serves truck-stop style coffee. It's not as strong tasting as you'd think, but the semi drivers call it "100-miler", meaning one cup will get you another 100 miles down the road.

The company that makes the "Arizona iced tea" also makes an "energy" version that is not too bad. The best part is they only charge ONE dollar for a 16oz can.

    Good stuff...

Possibly local. I see it at Ralphs all the time in the greater LA area. It has a strong orange-tropical taste. Similar to "Cactus Cooler".

Sugar Free - I don't need the extra carbs with all the Soda-like drinks that I inhale.

#1 is the best drink by a mile IMO. Lemon flavored and it goes down like "Gatorade".

Apparently it's an Albertson's brand drink. I do know I see them at the Ralph's that I frequent. A few articles that I have read confirm that it's at other distributors.

That's a different flavor. The one I posted has a better taste than the one listed and is still less than a dollar.

On the way back from washington DC for police week, I only got around 4 hours of sleep the night before.. So, I needed something to get me back to Florida. Here were my weapons of choice...

2 iced mocha coffees (im not a fufu coffee drinker, but the chocolate was pretty good), two five hour energy shots, and a large mountain dew. I didn't blink for a good 20 minutes. We were talking on a non-recorded car to car channel on the way back, I think the others in our convoy were ready to kill me. for 10 hours I felt like a meth addict.
