    Aint sleep deprivation fun?

Woke up Saturday at 1830 to get ready for work. Worked from 2100-0700. On sunday mornings, I take the baby on his first wake-up so I don't have to on Monday or Tuesday. Then one of the division secretaries needed help moving so I was helping her until 1300. We get home and I tell my wife I need to take a nap. Sorry, not allowed. She wanted me to help unpack te boxes in the guest room because we're buying a guest bed for it soon since her parents will be here next week. Could it have waited? Yep. Are we even getting the bed today? Nope, it's raining/snowing. I fell asleep shortly before 0100 last night (after the baby goes to sleep, I need me time to decompress). I was up for 30 hours. Then was back up at 0900 for the baby. 8 hours sleep isn't bad, but it's not enough. I'll be up until midnight or one again tonight (my normal time to go to bed on my nights off since I don't want to mess up my schedule too much) making 8 hours sleep in what 52 hours?

I remember those nights fondly. Fondly, because I already have my 3 kids and won't be doing that ever again!

Sleep deprivation is the name of the game here in PA with part-time police work.

I am different than you however in that since I have the tendency to fall asleep at the wheel when I'm tired I will sleep anytime I have the chance. If I had a wife or girlfriend that said I could not I would politely tell her that she she could:
    A) Find a new husband/boyfriend because when I wreck and die she will need one anyway; or
B)Wait until I wake up and then I will do what she asks.

Another reason on my list of why I will never get married. That's what I love about talking to married guys. They make me appreciate the single life so much more...

You're obviously a much nice man than I am. I would have told my wife to take a flying you know what if she wanted me to do without sleep for something like that.

I equate getting at least a minimum about of sleep with officer safety. Being too tired out there is dangerous and risking it for something non-emergency simply wasn't acceptable to me. I had to have that conversation with my wife early on. My surviving the night was more important that her whims.

Sometimes with kids it can't be helped, but unpacking or moving boxes for something in the future wouldn't cut it.

Yeah, it can be a chore. I don't often have to do it but considering I'm often on call for multipule continuous 24 hour shifts, it has and will in the future. The good news is they are pretty rare and I can usually get some sleep.

DON'T wait until the stress of the job and family take its toll on your body. A level of Depression will set in, and soon followed by stress/anxiety attacks, and then even less sleep. Your family life and work life will suffer.

Take care of yourself now. Sleep is probably the most important part of keeping stress levels low. Relieve Stress now, before it compounds itself so much that Doctors are needed.

You know, my job was putting me through that until just last week. Start work at 03:00, stop work at 15:00, and on call all night. Just about every night I was getting a phone call. This was 5 days a week, but more often than not, I would get all call requiring me to go into to work on the weekend. I was putting in around 70 - 80 hours every week, and getting calls in the middle of my sleep cycle which was 17:00 - 01:00. I sympathize! Sleep deprivation is dangerous and very unhealthy! I did it for 7 months, and now have really high blood pressure, under a doctor's care for it. Probably because I never got the chance to completely unwind or go do something other than working, sleeping and eating. Not Good!
