The problem in the NW is that when they completed Bonneville Dam, they offered electricity dirt cheap and that lasted until about 1970 or so. During that time, lots of houses were built with electric heat. Alcoa and Reynolds Aluminum both built huge plants here that had electric furnaces.
Then as I said, about 1970 they started raising the rates. Alcoa and Reynolds both had to close their plants as did a couple of steel mills that had been using the cheap power.
But there are a lot of old houses still around that have nothing but electric heat and they cost a small fortune. Natural gas is now the cheapest way to go, but that may not last. All the goofy environmentalists out here are fighting any pipelines. I can't believe how self destructive some people out here are.....![]()
