    Labor Day 2009.

We had a cookout with some friends from church (see vid below).

What did you do this Labor Day?

I thought a Dunkin' Donuts cop was gonna pop up for a second. :p

I didn't do anything this time, which is a big change. Everyone in my family is working today which included me.

I hear you. I believe I was working on Labor Day last year. I got lucky and received it as an 'off day' this year.

Today I celebrated the last day of noise, parties, traffic congestion and countless strangers wandering through my yard at all hours of the day and night (at least until next summer).

I live at the beach, about five doors from the water.

My side of the street is a private community comprised of staid and stogy old folks and single family residents. The other side of the street is summer rentals. Every year between Memorial Day and Labor Day, the summer rental side is party city - loud music, kids skateboarding down the street at all hours of the day and night and drunks trying to remember which party house they are staying at for the week. Our side of the street is gated off to keep the riffraff (I mean summer rental folks) out, all to no avail.

Today is the last day of summer for the party rental folks. Tomorrow, rents go back to normal (during the summer one week's rent is the same as one month's rent during off season.) Tonight will be the last night of drunks, loud music and parties. Tomorrow, the summer rental folks will move out, there will be parking spaces on the streets once again, the roads will be free of trash, and peace and tranquility will return for nine months. (Sigh)

Indeed, a celebration is in order regarding your situation, L-1.

You can't tell me that you haven't capitalized during the summer months...I visualize you pushing (or driving) a mobile beer garden through your neighborhood. $8 for an ice cold 'tall boy' can of beer.

I worked today, last day of the first week of Phase II of Field Training. YAY! Arrested a vagrant for panhandling on the right of way, two burglary of business reports, and my first sexual battery case!

But, I did earn 15 hours of Holiday Time!

Well my scheduled 8 hour shift has now become a double since someone decided not to show up. Perks of working a department that only have one man on. And of course at midnight you wont find someone else to come in and fill it.

I am the only person this happens to, no exaggeration.

My wife had to work, then after she came home, we went with all the In-laws and nieces to an "Old South" restaurant we'd never been to before.

I had Shrimp & Grits, a "Stuffed Cheeseburger" stuffed with cheeses and a Sweet Potato casserole, followed up with "Hummingbird Cake".

Then my wife and her 2 youngest nieces went onto the porch and tried out the "Boggleboard"(?)

We did a little shopping at Barnes & Noble, where I picked up a really nice hardbacked copy of The United States Constitution and Other American Documents, Fall River Press, Book - Barnes & Noble from the "bargain table".

Then we returned to the In-Laws, where most of us sat around the dining room table with coffee's and water and they kvetched:

    Good times...

LOL... yeah and it takes a lot of them to make a whole cake. :D

It was similar to a banana but bread, but 3 layers with butter creme icing and some pieces of pineapple scatterred throughout.

Creeker, is it just me or does that 'boggleboard' look dangerous? Could put an eye (or two) out.

Love the vids, man. Do some more, please.

Finally took some vacation this Labor Day and took the wife and kids to Sea World in San Antonio and visited the old alma mater at UT Austin (during the season opener of the 'Horns no less). Stayed at the lodge at Lackland Air Force base and paid 27 bucks a night!

You could have used some of the bass and bluegill's that the kids and me caught to have a fish fry. That would have made your picnic much better. ;)

Sorry, it is a Joggling board - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

My wife is a 47 year old kid sometimes, but she has a blast with the nieces. The vid was shot with my 5 year old Cellphone.

The other one was with our digicam, which she brought in the house to show my last dead squirrel pic.:D
