    DWI patrol

So I did a DWI patrol last Friday night. Didn't get any. I am a salaried employee but the fathers pay me extra for DWI patrols. $30 smackers a hour.

When I was on patrol I would get 2 or 3 DWI's a night now I see very few. This is a good thing obviously, but our DWI funds in our area are controlled by the local Sheriff's Department. They base their doling out of funds on how many DWI's you get. I find it difficult to get one lately.

I stopped 27 cars and 5 of them had DD's. The others were not drinking.

I personally think that funds should be controlled by a non police agency.

    What do you think?

What is the size (sworn staff) of your agency? Why would you be dependant on the S.O.? Do they control grant funds? If so, I can easily see why they are distributing funds based on stats.

My staff is around 20 on any given day. The only thing they control are DWI funds. They get themselves 2 or 3 new cars every year tons of equipment while the rest of us get squat. It used to be controlled by a civilian and it was distributed evenly.

The Sheriff controls your departments budget? That's what it sounds like if they get cars and equipment, and you get nothing.

Must be a NY thing. Our grant monies are controlled by the Governor's Highway Safety Program (the Governor)... But, it is shelled out per the numbers.

Yep, same here. Stats are everything. The guys working some of the details love the money, but hate the detailed work log stats they have to turn in with time sheets.
