Going back to the old school....

So, I heard Bill Cosby talking about President Obama this morning. I had a flashback to my childhood where I used to listen to my parents' records (yes kiddies - VINYL records) of Bill Cosby. I thought about watching him on the TV when he did "Picture Pages" on the Electric Company show. Fat Albert was always a laugh riot, too. I then grew up watching him on The Cosby Show.

The youth may be gone, but the memories remain. I wanted to share a time of innocence that had been long forgotten. I know in this line of work we're faced on a daily basis with things that will steal that innocence from the children we see often on a daily basis.

Anyway, here's a bit of what I remember from one of the records.
If you've got a fond memory from a simpler time of your life, feel free to take the time and post it here.
Of every one hundred men, ten should not even be here. Eighty are nothing but targets. Nine are real fighters, and we are lucky to have them, for they make the battle. Ah, but the One... One of them is a Warrior... He will bring the others back.

    "Wrong door, buddy!"

Let no man's ghost say my training failed him.

We listened to Bill Cosby, Bob Newhart, Tom Lehrer....good times. Here's another favorite:

I remember what a big deal it was when Wizard of Oz was on tv. There was a family up the road that had a big console color tv, so we watched the black&white opening sequence at my grandparents, then ran to the neighbors during the commercial break to see the color parts. My grandfather was convinced the black&white part would look better on their black&white tv.

I remember when we had an 8 track that sat way up on top of the TV, and my parents had an audio of Star Wars. I remember sitting there listening to it and being all wrapped up in the story.

And Sgt, I am right there with you about Picture Pages. And these days, I have the benefit of watching Sesame Street with my kids, and they still have a lot of the old stuff.

Kids love things, no matter how old they are. Both my kids love watching the couple discs of Fraggle Rock and the Muppet Show we picked up.

Hell, I can remember sitting in the kitchen listening to the Jack Benny show on the radio that was on top of the fridge. There was also Arthur Godfrey, The Great Glidersleeve, Amos and Andy, etc. I was about 7 when we got our first television.

And the TV stations didn't start broadcasting until about 2 in the afternoon and went off the air about 10 pm. And you had about an hour of test pattern before any shows came on. I'd get home from school in time to watch "Cactus Theater" which was old Republic Bob Steele movies.:D

About 10 or 12 years ago, my wife and I were driving in S. Oregon and picked up a radio station broadcasting a Zane Grey western. Within minutes, we were both glued to the radio listening to the story. It's really neat to let your imagination work rather than leave it to special FX.

I'm glad I was part of that era even if only for a few years.
Apparently, I'm supposed to be more angry about what Mitt Romney does with his money than what Barack & Michelle Obama do with mine

I have aklways thought bill Cosby was funny (especially feeding chocolate cake for breakfast) and I thought the eletric company was the only show on for a couple years.
