Totally off-topic, but I just passed the physical (state mandate, like my POST training) testing of my county's fire department. Interviews are next.
I'm hopeful but a realist in this matter though, 400 or so took the written, 276 passed, roughly 20-30 positions to be filled though. This testing drew volunteers from all over the region though, a good twenty or more with prior volunteer experience.

Sometimes people who already have taken classes or are on departments are really not better quality applicants. I see some really scary folks every month at the EMS exams, 50% of the paramedics I test can't handle the basic level short-board skill station ....you'd think they were trying to put someone into a space-man suit. :rolleyes:
BTW, I'm going to the fire academy for my town's call dept. in Aug. I'm glad because getting hired to the PD is proving to be very tough because of the financial problems everyone is having, so at least I am making some progress somewhere. Hopefully by next year people will realize that cops get older and retire or move on every year, and you can't put off hiring forever, especially if crime rises in a bad economy.Always we begin again.

I'm saying a silent prayer that you'll be one of the 20-30 who will fill one of those slots.
When stationed at Camp Gordon I pulled permanent MP duty in Augusta and Richmond county and lived in an apartment on Walton Way.
Back then there was a fire station on the north side of the 1200 block of Broad St. which had a great crew of fire fighters who served some of the best meals in town.:D

Just did the 'oral board' today.
Completely scripted. Personally I think i did just fine.
It consisted of 12 questions asked by 7 people. It was over in 20 minutes. I'll find out in a couple more weeks with a hired/wait list/screw off letter.Last edited by ngcsubutterbar; 08-19-09 at 12:57 AM.
