Only a year. But every day feels like it's a week long. Ya, I don't like what I do very much.

on Dec 20th will mark one year as a commissioned Naval Officer. One more year and I get promoted! Still I've "technically" been in the Navy for 6 years.
do you automatically get promoted from Ensign to LTjg? Or do you have to test? You said you were in the service for 6 years. As an enlisted? What steps did you have to take to go from a enlisted to Officer?
I'm betting college/academy for 4 years. :D

I do get automatically promoted to Lt j.g. after two years unless i've done something stupid like get a DUI. Then two years after that I get full Lt's bars. To go up higher i need to test and get experienced.
I wasn't prior enlisted I was in the Naval ROTC at my college for 5 years and that is "technically" being in the Navy even though its really not being a part of the Fleet. As a midshipman you get an ID go on cruises etc and are in the Naval Reserve with the ability to go on bases, use the commissary and exchange.
There are practically tons of ways for an enlisted man to go the officer route. Some that i never even knew existed until after i was commissioned.
There is nothing like what I have become.
