Ok, I'm watching the documentary on cable re: David Koresh, etc. I tuned in late, no one is home but me - for the life of me I can't remember why the ATF initially ambushed him......why was there a problem with the place? Dammit - I hate it when I can't remember stuff. Help

He had warrants for, I believe, illegal guns and explosives and things of that nature.

koresh and his peeps sold some undercover ATF guys some illegal weapons.

They were executing a federal search warrant to search for illegal Class III weapons. From what I know about the foresic examination that followed the fire, if they had successfully executed the warrant, they would have found a lot of them.

I still remember the local Sherrif being interviewed and making a statement to the effect that Koresh was always cooperative with the local law and that whenever he needed to speak to Koresh about something he just picked up the phone. Of course, he disappeared from the media very quickly after that.

So, while Koresh COULD have been taken in town and the warrent executed in a quite, routine manner, a political decision from very high up had them instead put on a big show which eventually blew up in their faces.

From what I gathered from the documentary it was a fubar - (is that correct) LOL. They had radio recordings of Koresh asking them to stop firing - he would come out - they were not resisting. What a mess - I think two or three ATF guys were killed - not to mention the lives of those in the actual house. The officers didn't even write reports of the raid, evidence disappeared, crazy.

If your really want to know the whole story, a good place to start is to read the official investigation by the Treasury Department.

When you see what Koresh was doing in the name of religious freedom, it is pretty hard to understand how this guy has become such a hero to so many people. Such are the times we live in, I guess.

I also caught that DOC on TV really late this morning like 3am.

I fear the documentaries are clipped and and editted for what "they" want to show

I do know this much, that FBI negotiator should be fired..wow

Indeed they did have illegal weapons on that compound. It would take a whole hell of alot to convince me that specially trained ATF agent walked up on that property and fired first, no way..
