    "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Holidays"

Should we say "Merry Christmas" as the greeting for this season or the more generic "Happy Holidays"? Some people feel that Happy Holidays or words to that effect are more inclusive of other faiths, beliefs and non-beliefs. Others, myself included, think that using the proper term for the season, Christmas, is more respectful of the seasons' origin. I have no problem with people saying, "Happy Hanukkah" or using the greeting which suits their tradition. I just don't feel comfortable saying, happy holidays.

hehe, I wonder what the pagans called it when they first formed it.

Honestly, I don't have just 'one' saying.

I always say Merry Christmas. To me Happy Holidays covers New Years or Hannuka.
Oh, and since I am an atheist, I guess I say Merry Christmas out of habit. Kinda like 'bless you' when someone sneezes.

It depends on who I am around when I talk about it. If I am around a person who doesn't celebrate Christmas, I will refer to it as the holiday season. Otherwise, the default for me is Merry Christmas.

Merry Christmas. Christmas was around a long time, much before any other currently celebrated holiday. Every calendar I have ever seen ( except probably the ones from PETA) say "CHRISTMAS" under 12-25. Never saw one that didn't say Christmas or New Years and listed " Happy Holidays" for both days instead.

Having said that, say whatever makes you feel merry.

Thanks, I'll saty out of Nevada for the month of December so I don't have to listen to that.
