So I spent about 15 minutes taking my wife's hanging baskets off of the front porch, laid down a few pieces of Lumber and some Garbage cans sitting at the back of the house, and set a planter that was a bit precariously perched on another planter on the ground... all preparing for some fantastic "wind storm" the Harpies on the weather programs have been screaming about.

I thought about taking the bird feeders and bird baths in, but decided against it, figuring it would take more than a Cat 1 to shake most of them lose...

I know I'm going to have a very lightweight empty planter to chase down from either the woods out back or the tree line... I don't know why I left it out to blow, I was just lazy I guess...

Of more concern was my temp mounted Anemometer, but I decided that it wouldn't get much damage if it got blown off from its mount, which is about 15 feet off the ground in the backyard, where it isn't really very accurate due to the trees... I really haven't figured out how to mount it where it is acceptable to my wife/me and my HOA, but yet able to be half way accurate again due to the tree's

I left the house on my own for the first time since August 27th, because my truck had 1/4 tank of fuel, and I sat in line at the fuel pumps for 20 minutes while I watched all manner of impatient me-first drivers beat each other to the pump from both ends...(why does Wally World put gas stations on the smallest piece of real estate they can find, then overpopulate the fuel islands with pumps so that only 3 vehicles can comfortably sit in line at a time?) ... then grabbed some lunch at my favorite sandwich shop that refused to take my call-in order because only the drive-thru window was open.

Schools closed at 11AM, many workers either didn't go to work or the workplace closed early, so I suppose I was lucky to find my sandwich shop open:rolleyes:

We've had spotty rain for most of the day until about 1700, with very little wind. Some heavy rain kicked up at around 1700 and a little while later some wind came in.

Now we've been getting sporadic heavy rain with a little wind, but the wind I get is diffused due to the backyard trees... which begs the mention that my biggest fear of damage will come from falling tree limbs onto either my or my wifes cars... since we can't get either one into the garage due to my wife's on-going in-house repair & repaint... .

We've been needing the rain...our up-state has been border-line drought declaration for awhile now.

Hanna's now going to miss us, but yet the weather Harpees are still going on as if we are just short of some type of Doomsday scenario.

Looks like we're most likely going to escape Ike, thank goodness. Two storms right behind the other is bad bad bad news.

I know with Hannah there were some tornado sightings but haven't been out to assess the damages yet. If we get another one anytime soon after Hannah has weakened everything and saturated the ground, we'll be in a heck of a mess.

Surely you've sat thru 'Caines that took out the power and water for a few days, knocked down some houses and a slew of trees?

With fran we didn't have electricity for a little under a week or 1 1/2 weeks. That also knocked down a big old honkin tree almost onto my dads car. And he's an insurance adjuster too, wouldn't that of been just his luck? :D

For Hugo, my wife & I were living with the In-laws on their fold-out couch in my wife's old bedroom for 2 weeks until our Mobile Home was re-levelled and the lights back on. My In-laws live near the Naval Weapons Station and their lights were back on in about 3 days... about when their water came back on.

They have a swimming pool, though, so at least we could flush the toilets... even though it was full of every shredded green leaf from all of the nearby trees and bushes in sight.

It was really earie waking up the day after Hugo hit and not being able to hear any local news aside from the Charlotte station for several hours... that has all changed, now.

It was hot today(yesterday), but clear and nice, not nearly as humid as it usually is when we have the heat.

Right now its getting muggy again, temps are mid 70's here @ 0425 :p

The tomatoes are just about done. There are still some blooms on the plants, but I doubt anything will become of them.

None of my planters blew over, even the empty one I thought I was going to have to chase down stayed close by. I re-hung my flag and all of my wifes hanging baskets .

I did lose an Eggplant off of one of my bushes, but there are several more growing, along with some of my peppers that are finally amounting to something. The one that came off was about the size of a softball.

I probably should have yanked the tomato bushes out by now... they are sort of straggly looking..., but the hand thing has had that kind of thing on hold.

I think it is a little late to try to plant more tomatoes,... they'd have to come up out of seed... so I'm trying to figure out what to plant for the fall at this point.

You can always think outside the box, and plant a dollar bill to see if money does grow on trees.......

Of course I have, 100's of them ... I've lived here my whole life. I've been through some pretty bad ones. When Hannah hit us, it was just below a cat. 1 at 70 mph. Another 5 mph and it would have been a hurricane. But even Tropical Storms are dangerous ... they too carry tornadoes. A few tornadoes were spotted here but fortunately never touched down as far as I know.
