    Holy medical bill!!!!!!!

3 weeks ago, I had to go to the ER and they kept me overnight for observation. I was at the hospital for less than 24 hours. Yesterday I got the bill. Drumroll please................ $29,351! My insurance has not processed it yet but I am crossing my fingers that they don't do what they've been doing, which is not covering everything as they should. I actually started having heart palpitations when I saw the total. Can you believe that amount!?

When our triplets were born in 2007 the two girls were in the NICU for 41 days, and our son was in the NICU for 51 days. The bill was almost a half a million dollars.

Luckily, between my wife's insurance and my insurance, we only wound up paying a couple of hundred.

Even so, twenty-nine grand seems ridiculous for an overnight. Did you order room service? Get a couple of massage therapists to come to your room?

    ;)

I couldn't imagine what your bills looked like! Thank God insurance covered most of it for you. Our daughters have been in PICU several times and it blows my mind!
I wish I had gotten room service or a massage! Instead I was in a neckbrace, couldn't move and couldn't eat. I was able to eat right before they discharged me. Those must be the most expensive saltine crackers and cup of apple juice ever!

Hey Green.......hope you haven't spent all the money you made from the yard sale!:D

Looks like you and MM won't be seeing Vegas if the insurance company doesn't pay everything.

Recently my 6 year old had major 14 hour spinal surgery (2 growth rods placed along her spine -severe scoliosis +95 degree curve). She was in the hospital exactly two full weeks (1 full day in OR, 1 week in ICU and 6 days inpatient). We received the detailed itemized statement from insurance that was provided to them from the hospital. The bill was just shy of $200K and insurance paid (after contractual adjustments) about 75% of it. I ended up having to pay about $1,700 out of pocket. Thank God for good insurance!

BTW, hope you are feeling better subsequent to your ER visit. And hopefully, you don't get stuck with too much of that bill.
    .....get a stupid ANSI.

My son's total hospital bill from being born as a micro-preemie: $5mil
Number of trips to the hospital to visit: numberous
total amount of pocket expense: 0 dollars (paid by city insurance)

seeing him at 10 years old and he reminds you of when you were his age:

Hope you have to pay as much as I did.

That seems like a lot, even for today's hospital bills. I know where some of the money goes, to pay for people who they treat and don't have insurance, but I wonder where the rest of it goes? Contrary to what a lot of liberals scream, hospitals don't have that high a profit margin.

But it's no wonder my health insurance premiums go up 15% every year. Oh well, in two more years, I'll be on gubmint medicare......
Apparently, I'm supposed to be more angry about what Mitt Romney does with his money than what Barack & Michelle Obama do with mine

I have the same questions! The pharmacy bill was $2500. Which was a different charge from the IV treatment. I received 2 doses of morphine and 1 dose of phenergan. I believe what you are talking about is "cost sharing". I have good insurance so why not bill more.

I'm with Hockey, I need to start a hospital.

Most importantly, if for some reason your insurance DOES attempt to deny it, call and ask to speak to a supervisor. do NOT take no for an answer. Trust me, i've had to deal with insurance coverage before. The squeaky wheel gets the grease, or payment of coverage in this case ;). Keep us updated on the outrageous payment status!

Thanks Remy. Good point. Plus, the FOP and the city are very good about running interference to help us re: our insurance. They tried to get out of paying some things recently and they were a huge help. They ended up paying what they were supposed to. I'll keep you posted.
