Lost the internet for a couple of days.
New Orleans didn't make out to bad in this one. However, a couple of the surrounding parish's didn't fare as well as the city did. I gotta admit though that the "pucker" factor started to kick in when we got word of a levee that could possibly breech over in the ninth ward. I just kept thinking to myself that I hope nobody was stupid enough to stay in that area.
Where the storm made landfall, around the city of Houma, LA, they got it pretty rough though. Baton Rouge got nailed with loads of rain.
After Katrina hit the city my family moved to a small Cajun community just North of Lafayette, LA (we lost our home during Katrina). I just talked to wife (she evacuated), who after talking to some neighbors, informed me that a small tree fell on our house. Not sure on how bad the damage is, but I am hoping at least the structure is intact.
A tornado hit only a couple of blocks away from my grandmothers house. Thanks god she left (she is hardheaded). But it destroyed about 6 homes I believe. If anyone from the area is curious that particular incident happened in Westwego, on "Avenue H" I believe.
All things said I think things went pretty ok from an operational standpoint. I'll update some more as time allows.
