Is it just me, or does anyone else here who is not LE, want to reply to the Ask-A-Cop threads sometimes?! I constantly hit the reply button because I forget and then get the dreaded "you can't post" msg (it doesn't actually say that, but you get the idea). Sometimes, I just call my computer stupid in lieu of being able to respond.

Nah...it sucks for about a minute then you forget all about it...

Some people come here with some seriously stupid answers and that could be answered with a little common sense, but it seems some people here jump on them and attack them. Its like we forgot that not everyone has the knowledge any of us have. Sure some are true trolls. But others are here asking in their own opinion, is legitimate. Unfortunately, its runs people off...



Like I just said, I think we all need to remember, that not everyone has the same amount of knowledge/common sense as us. We're not all perfect...I'll be the first to admit...I've made sarcastic and possibly rude comments to people here that may have had a legit question in their own opinion, no matter how ridiculous it seems...

I often consider going the Norm357 route and starting a new thread entitled "Dear Idiot62942..." wherein I make my feelings, as a civilian, known to the poster. But inevitably I don't.

I would be willing to be that if there was a separate sub-forum for Civilian Answers to Ask-A-Cop Questions, it would always be busy...

I don't think the issue is lack of insight from a LEO point of view. I believe it's the posters lack of common decency and that the percentage of us that are LEO's have A+ attitude and tell people exactly how it is, not what they want to hear.

When people have a pre-conceived notion that a LEO is going to tell them that everything is going to be ok and it's not, they seem to lash out toward the truth that we point out.

We tell them they have/had made stupid choices in their lives, because they are exactly that, "Stupid". They want to rationalize their poor choices in life and try and relate that to the choices a LEO has made.

Smoking any narcotic within the last year shows poor choices and you are looked at as a liability to the Agency you are applying for. You would not be hired by my department.

These questions are just a tiny percentage of the one's we get in the real world every day. I don't even wear a uniform to and from work because of them.

Ever had someone come up to you and ask to DNA test a cigarette butt because someone has been stealing her smokes? Then get all offended when you won't? :confused:

We can fix that so that you can answer in Ask-A-Cop. All you need to do is: 1) get hired by a law enforcement agency, 2) make it through your training academy, and 3) be sworn in. Once that's done, you can be verified and answer Ask-A-Cop threads until your heart is content.

If people want responses to questions from the general public, there are several sections where they can post. The Backgrounds section is perfect example. A lot of question about hiring, etc are placed there and anyone can put in their two cents.

I don't think anyone should take it as a slight they can't reply in AAC. Some people only want to read police officer's answers to their questions. This is a police forum and that's why some come here to ask questions, they wanna see what cops think.

Or as was said, Norm often posts an answer in the GI or GII sections. That's always an option.
