Yeah, I've known him from the time he started and he's still a friend of mine.

His biggest fault is that he just loves the camera a bit too much. Dubber is a funny person and a kick to be around. I worked around him in uniform and worked one police shooting investigation with him when he was a detective. The problem always was that the most dangerous place to be standing was between Dubber and a camera!

He was a pretty good cop. He shot and killed a guy who was holding a hostage at knifepoint one night. He kept his cool and handled it better than a lot of cops I know would have. Unfortunately, it affected him quite a bit and he tried to use humor to deal with it. And a lot of people took that wrong. He's big, he's strong, he cares about people and he knows how to be a cop, don't kid yourselves.

He's definitely not a tool. I'd prefer having C.W. with me in just about any police situation than most I know.;)

I based my "what a tool" comment solely on the silly television programs he has hosted. Obviously not on any personal knowledge.

You know the ones, with the fake tire screeches and crash noises. And somehow, the same reporter in a helicopter for every single video, whether it is out of Florida or California.

I completely understand, I couldn't bear to watch that garbage either. I guess he thought he had a career in national TV. Believe me, he's taken a lot of grief over that stuff from all who know him!:D

Those stupid shows got him in grease at work too. Although he wasn't wearing a Portland police uniform, the chief's office wasn't the least bit choked up about him doing that. It all came back to haunt him later on when they started looking for reasons to make his life miserable, even long after the shows were gone. Although he's a friend, I have limited sympathy, he brought it all on himself. He started believing all the crap TV people were telling him about how cool he was.:rolleyes: But some in command around here have long memories. Most were poor to mediocre cops before they got promoted and were resentful of guys like Dubber who tended to throw it in their faces.

Now he's feeding his ego doing some local theater stuff. I think he learned his lesson, I hope so.

Yeah, he's a pretty disgusting individual IMO, both professionally and morally. He served only one term as sheriff and was beaten soundly by one of our retired A/Chiefs.

There were lots of stories going around in LE circles around here about him, underage SO clerical personnel, drinking and using the dope money he seized as his own personal slush fund. I can't verify any of the stories, but cops generally recognize their own bad apples. And I heard several of the stories from deputies who should know.

Bunnell was with the sheriff's office here. CW and I were Portland police. We all knew each other.
