Umm, wouldn't it tend to give you blisters to wear short socks with boots? Since you're probably going to be on an ambulance any day now when you ace the scam...I mean registry..., I will suggest that I always wear crew socks. The more skin that is covered with something the less likely you are to get something nasty on you.
Always we begin again.
I wear those thick gray tube socks that come 10 to a pack from WalMart. I think that wearing ankle socks and boots would lead to blisters.

I always wear the long tube kind as well...otherwise, blisters pop up like hell. :(
One day I'll join the ranks of the brave men in blue...
I went to FootLocker, and bought a couple pairs (10) of Soccer socks (up past knee), then I fold them over and it provides more padding on the ankle, which you may need.....uh, I mean??? :D
I wear crew length black boot socks. I can't remember who makes them, but they are thicker all along the bottom of the foot. Mom bought them for me from a uniform store when I got hired. I have purchased some since, but I didn't see them avaialble online just now when I looked.

I never found any advantage to wearing boots at work. I got some when I first came on because everyone else did. But after about a year, I chucked them and got shoes. They were more comfortable and lighter, making it easier to do a foot chase. I could do anything in shoes that others did in boots.

Wear the high socks, 3/4 calf or knee high kind. It keeps the boots from chafing or your socks from sliding down into your boots and if you wear BDU pants it keeps it dark colored so when you sit down you don't have white ankle (or whatever color your shins are) skin showing.
