The thing I remember most was "An Cer" with an arrow meant that way to the center of town. Once you got there, there would be a roundabout with signs to all the other cities. With the exception of Dublin, of course.
The funniest thing I heard was an announcer at a horserace broadcasting in Gaelic.
I overheard it from a few feet away, and only in passing before I realized what it was. Probably the gist of the conversation had a few phonic sounds I mistook for English.
