DirectTV vs Dish Network?

I had Charter Cable, and absolutely hated pretty much everything about them. Stuff kept getting more and more expensive, awful billing (or not even getting a bill), being charged for things I never had (phone, extra channels etc etc)


Well I'm settled in my new place and looking at the possibility of getting satellite. I've always hated satellite, but it looks like they have improved greatly. My fiancees parents have Dish and they have the biggest package because all they do is sit there and watch TV. Signal seems pretty good. Only thing I don't like (and yes its a big thing during hockey season) is they don't have the VS channel. I think you have to order that separate. No biggie.


Which one do you like more? Why?

Cable.

Despite the fees, I would resent having bought dvr's for every tv in the house for the purposes of recording somethings I can't watch when my wife wants the tv or something, but being forced to watch or record the same channel I am watching.

...And I know they offer you their dvr's... that you have to pay for somewhere... but I want to save some things I record (anyone else have the both entire seasons of Jericho?).

Also, I already have too many electronic boxes plugged in around my tv... another box & I'd have to put the Converter box on its own circuit.

I have Direct TV and I've had cable. To echo Creeker, go with cable. I don't hate Direct TV but they were no mach for my local cable co. Of course if your cable sucks that bad...

I'm interested in this as well. I like my cable but I'm really upset they don't carry the NFL network :mad:

If it was up to me I'd pay the exter $5 or whatever to get it and keep the cable. I'm sure this is going to be a bigger issue as we get clooser to football season :D

Funny this came up, I just switched from cable to Dish One. I have Comcast, I love the high speed Internet, but their cable is more expensive and I don't get as many channels. I also got a deal where I have the same price for life with the satellite, Comcast continually raises it's fees.

I also get a DVR for free that works for both TV's, Comcast would charge me monthly rental on a DVR.

They have that available here, but I've had so many problems with Verizon phone service whenever there's a problem that I'm leery of anything from them.

When I moved last time, they hooked up my phone service, but when I called home, I got a recording that the number wasn't in service. It was the number they told me it would be. I called service (in Dallas, Tx) and was told that wasn't my number. I asked what my number was and they said they couldn't tell me, it was unlisted. :mad: I had to go to Verizon store where I had to give my ID and then the woman called to get my number for me. She hung up and handed me the same number I was originally given.

She had to call back and finally I found out what my real phone number was.

I could entertain you quite a while longer with Verizon stories, but I'll spare you.:D

I went from basic cable 2-99 to directTV and sometimes it's frustrating because when it rains or the wind blows hard my Tv will say.. wait while we find your signal. :eek::eek:

I have Dish Network, it's treated me well for the past several years.

Whatever you do, STAY AWAY FROM COMCAST!!! around here they are notorious for crapping out more than a satellite dish in a tornado!

Obviously it might not be the same everywhere, but I figure it's better to be safe than sorry. ;)

FX, SciFi, Discovery, History, local ABC, Versus, FSN Detroit, Spike, TruTV, and Fox.

I have Dish Network and "Americas Everything Pak" has all the channels you are looking for. Its like a hundred dollars a month but you do get everything.

Anyone have any new info on either? I'm getting ready to change to direct TV (I think).

I could live with the cable but the wife wants to change. I need to ask a few people about the "lost signal" due to wind. Down here in South Texas it can get pretty windy.
