Cop Impersonator Pulls Over State Trooper

    What a moron!

    http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp...nating_officer

CLARKSTOWN, N.Y. - Mistake No. 1: Impersonating a police officer. Mistake No. 2: Making a traffic stop. Mistake No. 3: Stopping an off-duty state trooper. Shalom Gelbman, 22, of New Square, N.Y., made all three mistakes, state police said.

Gelbman, with a strobe light on his dashboard and his high beams flashing, pulled a car over Wednesday night on the Palisades Interstate Parkway, police said. Inside the car was state Trooper Seamus Lyons, who arrested Gelbman. It was clear to Lyons that Gelbman wasn't a colleague, authorities said, because of his license plate number and the equipment he had in his car.

Gelbman was charged with reckless endangerment and criminal impersonation, police said, and was cited for having unauthorized equipment in his car, a dark blue Mercury Grand Marquis with tinted windows.

Gelbman was also ticketed for driving without a registration or insurance. He was released on $5,000 bail after being arraigned in Clarkstown Justice Court.

Why would he do that? I can see why a guy might impersonate a cop to gain admittance to a house to rob/rape/murder, but why would you impersonate a cop to pull over a guy and give him a fake ticket or a lecture?

    Power trip??

There have been many instances where people have impersonated police to pull someone over and rob/rape them. Especially females alone in a dark area.

This type of thing is not as uncommon as you might expect.

I have nailed two guys for this in the past year. In both cases, I watched them do the stop.

In another unusual case, I had the stalker type chasing these two girls all over town. Finally find him and we have a talk. Chicks just wanted to leave and not pursue any criminal charges. I talk to loserboy and he is one strange one. No federal or local record which surprised me. I get all his info and cut him loose. He had the jail lawyer talk down and everything......he knew the game.

I am driving away and here comes idiot behind me.....he turns on his blue flashing lights and hits his siren like he was going to stop me......I hit the brakes and the pursuit was on. I had some dumb citizen block me in and he got away. But I did a warrant up for him and he was picked up later.

This happened in my county. The guy wasn't a rapist, just a Walter Mitty type.

    Tell you what...
I wouldn't want to be in a Clarkstown court, charged with THAT one.
