    The multiple message morass...

The other day my wife got her hair cut, and while she was at the salon she took off her earrings and left them on the counter.

The next day I was at the range all day. When I was leaving the range at about 1400 I checked my phone and saw that I had SIX messages, all from my wife's cell phone. Every single message was a very slight variation of, "I left my earrings at the salon. Can you stop by there and get them after work?"

She routinely does the same thing when I work mids and sleep during the day. I'll get up at 1700 and there will be anywhere from four to ten messages on the machine, all of them telling me she's not going to be home until 7 or 8 because she has to work late.

My mom does this too, with a slight variation. She'll leave one message that says something like, "We'll be over at six for dinner" and then leave five or six more messges throughout the day that say something like, "I left a message saying we'll be over at six, but I haven't heard from you yet."

I generally figure that when I leave a message I don't need to leave any more. Maybe there's something wrong with me... ;)

I can see your point mobrien but i know with my phone or maybe its the other person's phone but sometimes my texts aren't recieved. If I don't get a reply, even if it's an "ok" from a text I sent, I will usually send another one to make sure the original text was received. Beyond that if I get no response then screw it, I just don't care :D

But you might try just replying "ok" to your wife and parents and see if that satisfies them

You miss the point. He was away from the phone and checked the messages as soon as he could. Its a chick thing.

Yeah, same here... if I feel a need to actually speak with the person myself for more information or whatever, I'll tack on a "call me" or "I'll try calling you back later", when/if I do call back... well, if they don't answer, I already left a message... hang up and try again later!

It annoys me when I get multiple messages saying the same thing, luckily, most of the people that would call me for something don't have that problem.

Dunno if it's a chick thing. I tend to leave one message, and wait for a return call if needed. I figure if they want to talk to me, they know my numbers, so I will leave one message.

LOL Hey, Mobrien, at least they care!

I agree...if I send one and it gets no reply..I figure you either can't get back to me..or don't care.

My wife..on the other hand will expect me to send texts repeatedly to someone...knowing good and well that if they want to respond, they will. Sometimes people don't actually let their phones run there lives.

mobrien, you have to talk to you wife and to your mother.

When I started in the police work only a few month later I met my wife. In all those long years she only called me a few dozen of calls while I was on duty. And when she called me she had a urgent reason like "I'm in the hospital and our baby is coming".

My partner get calls and messages the whole shift from his wife, sometimes this is very, very nasty. Esp. when he answers her he has no time/is busy and his cell phone rings again and again. I told him to put the cell phone into the locker but he won't do that.

Also looking for Massachusetts Police and US Capitol City PD patches now!

I can't stand it when people leave messages period. I tell them that is what caller ID is for. I usually tell them that if they have left me a voicemail that it had better be because someone is on death row or of some similar severity (sp). I know it takes me a long time to return a call sometimes, but there is no need to leave the same message 20 times. I get it the first time. It is just so hard to talk on the phone with a baby, and I don't want him to see me with the thing attached to my ear all the time. Texting has come in great handy since having him. I can get done what I need to get done and don't have to talk on the phone at all.
