Here in our county every once in awhile we get this paper in the mail asking questions about whether or not we can or can't serve on jury duty - med questions things like that oand a list of other reasons.
Well, my friend's husband informed the jury board both by letter and by phone that he could not serve on a jury as he is 100% deaf in one ear and about 80% in the other (and he isn't kidding) and could not hear any of the testimony or the judges instructions. [Now that would be important, don't yah think?] Needless to say, he was called for jury duty one day this week.
Anyway, his # was finally called up. The first question asked was, "Is there any reason that you cannot serve on this jury should you be picked?" (Er, something like that.)
So, John says, "Yes, I am 100% deaf -- etc etc etc. He also told them that he hadn't heard a word in the last 3-1/2 hours of being there.
Needless to say the judge excused him.
What a waste of their time and also tax payers $$ especially when he was definitely truthful in his reason for getting himself excused.
Yeah, I know, there's a lot out there that would use less then honest reasons/excuses for not serving. :p [Had to beat somebody from mentioning that.]
