For studying that is. Come on now.
This could have been back in high school or college, or for the acadamy...but was it effective? Do you think that you were able to do better on the exam than if you had just gotten more sleep?

Once a week I stay up 24 hours or more. It is not healthy, and it affects your thinking. Anyone that tells you different probably also subscribes to the theory of "I've had 5 beers, but I'm okay to drive".
I have a 5am flight at an airport 1 hours from my house one time. I stayed up, rather than risk oversleeping. The next night at 11pm I couldn't sleep.
a few times yes while i was in college and once while I was getting my masters - i think it did more bad than good. I was falling asleep at the exam and when I got my exam back I got 80's. When I planned and prepared for an exam I would get upper 90's! So it pays not to procrastinate.
Plus the whole day you feel "off" and "uneasy". I hated it. Preperation is key so IMHO "all-nighters" do not work (for me).
Tiger is here for Mac!
All the time for exam when I was in my first year college, still ger A or B. But now I'm at McGill, doen't work anymore. :(
Effective? Dependes on course difficulty.
Ummm Yes! LOL I have been missing several hours of much needed sleep do to my school work.
To put it simply, I do my best work under pressure. I am usually the one to start a paper two or three nights before it is do. And that is what I have been pretty busy with the past few weeks. I got a 100 on the one, have to wait another week to get the results of the other...
Oh yeah and I have finals in a week so you can just assume I will put that off till the last minute and be pretty cranky next week! LOL
Yep, When I was in university I pulled them all the time. However, in my 4th and 5th year I found going to sleep at 12am and getting up at 4am worked better for me. I retained more if I got a few hours of sleep.
I can picture in my mind a world without war, a world without hate. And I can picture us attacking that world, because they'd never expect it.

Only with Leigh.
Oh, you were talking about school. Sooo sorry! ;)
Did it several times in college, did okay on the tests. Probably would've done better if I'd gotten more rest and studied harder.

Ive pulled many all - nighters, but it was definatly not studying.
Don't take life so seriously, you're not gonna get out of it alive anyway!
I am in the same boat. I have finals here soon and I am just bagged. I have only been staying up until 1:00 AM to study or so though, I don't think I can handle an all-nighter. I would pass out at school.Originally posted by Jynkxxie

I am surprised nobody has said that they pulled all-nighters for acadamies.

I pulled all nighters in college. They worked i passed but with bad results for me. if i dont sleep i start going crazy (throwing stuff, getting pissed off). one of my last finals i passed out in the back seat of my car for 4 hours right after wards, too tired to even drive home. In flight school however these are no nos. We're expected to be 2-3 flights ahead as in studying and if you havent slept you are more of a hazard to yourself and your instructor if you actually go up and fly. Here an all nighter can truly mean life or death.
