    Wal-mart - lawsuits aisle 4

    Woman Knocked Unconscious While Shopping
47 minutes ago Add Top Stories - AP to My Yahoo!

ORANGE CITY, Fla. - A mob of shoppers rushing for a sale on DVD players trampled the first woman in line and knocked her unconscious as they scrambled for the shelves at a Wal-Mart Supercenter.

Patricia VanLester had her eye on a $29 DVD player, but when the siren blared at 6 a.m. Friday announcing the start to the post-Thanksgiving sale, the 41-year-old was knocked to the ground by the frenzy of shoppers behind her.

"She got pushed down, and they walked over her like a herd of elephants," said VanLester's sister, Linda Ellzey. "I told them, `Stop stepping on my sister! She's on the ground!'"

Ellzey said some shoppers tried to help VanLester, and one employee helped Ellzey reach her sister, but most people just continued their rush for deals.

"All they cared about was a stupid DVD player," she said Saturday.

Paramedics called to the store found VanLester unconscious on top of a DVD player, surrounded by shoppers seemingly oblivious to her, said Mark O'Keefe, a spokesman for EVAC Ambulance.

She was flown to Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach, where doctors told the family VanLester had a seizure after she was knocked down and would likely remain hospitalized through the weekend, Ellzey said. Hospital officials said Saturday they did not have any information on her condition.

"She's all black and blue," Ellzey said. "Patty doesn't remember anything. She still can't believe it all happened."

Ellzey said Wal-Mart officials called later Friday to ask about her sister, and the store apologized and offered to put a DVD player on hold for her.

Wal-Mart Stores spokeswoman Karen Burk said she had never heard of a such a melee during a sale.

"We are very disappointed this happened," Burk said. "We want her to come back as a shopper."
Jim Reed: You just have to know how to arrest them and still make them like you. We call it technique.

I saw a woman on TV trying to cut in line at a Toys R US and she was repeatedly shoved back by two other ladies. I believe it was in VA. Whats up with your womenfolk down their Darin ?

Wal-Mart is the #1 sued retail corporation in the country. They also do not have a operating budget. Each store can have as much money as they want to redo a store. A guy I worked security at a mall is now head of security for Michigan stores and he said if I want $50 million to use I get it all. So people love to sue them.

Are you guys kidding me? You are legitimately suprised over these stories?

We get calls EVERY year about the fights that break out in front of Wal-Mart. This year, the one that stood out was the woman who punched the manager in the face when he told her they were out of the DVD's they had for sale.

I'm starting to think my husband and I argue about everything. lol
He said the store should have doen more than hold a dvd player for her. I think the store doesn't have to do a dang thing for her.

    What do you think?

I think that the store should have had a better crowd control system in place. She is prolly gonna sue and rightly win. Just my .02 cents and worth it.

People get so stupid the day after the Thanksgiving. A friend of mine said he was one of the first ones in the store that morning, picked up the one thing that he wanted, headed to the front only to wait in a 45 minute line.

Now as far as the story...Even adults need to grow up!

Its because of all those early shoppers i had to wake up at 4:30 am to get to work.

But i can say, even if i had to work some really ****ty hours becuase of those crazy shoppers, it was still fun, made the time to by.

My favorite customers were the "why isn't this line moving?" " why is it so long?" "whos on the register, cant they go faster?"

My response(to the rude ones)"It's the busiest day of the year, did you honestly not expect this?" and "The line only moves as the customer lets it"

What i watned to say"Shut the hell up, now get in the back of the line"

Awww - so many people forget the first rule of customer service, which is:

    Its the customer stupid!

If you forget this, get out of the business please. Kmart forgot it and look where they are. WalMart can be next if they don't watch out. The stampede is 100% WalMart's fault. They offer a DVD player at way below cost and probably spend more advertising it. They also don't pay their people squat so they usually don't get the most highly educated of the bunch.

    Just my 2

Actually I think WalMart....Or Wally World as some like to call it...has a disclaimer that they are not responsible for the actions of its customers...

*I don't know just something I remember a little birde who used to manage WalMart told me.*

I know someone that got one of these special DVD player at wally world, haha - the damn thing broke after a few hours of use. Although he brought it back and got another one - I would stick to a $130 DVD player that will last a few years. But hell, I guess you could buy 4 of those cheap DVD players at once and just keep switching them when they break down in a few months (and they will - they are not made with any quality what-so-ever).

Just go to any buffet - I've seen a lot of rude people try to fight getting their damn food! Only once have I seen a fist fight break out over crab legs. I tell ya...

Signs and/or disclosures usually don't hold water in court. If they did, then no one would get sued as everyone would simply put a sign on their property stating "enter at your own risk" . WalMart is responsible for their own corporate misconduct and greed. I would never vote to put one of their disguisting stores in my fair city. I like the mom and pop stores myself, better customer service and they pay more per capita in taxes as well (a lot of WalMarts have sweet deals with local officials. They don't pay their workers squat either)
