I've got this dilemma at work..

So this guy just started working here about a month go and was assigned to help me cover my shift. I work nights and because the work that I do doesnt really require me to interact with anyone I'm used to just waiting for any work to come in and do it, after the shift is over I go home.

Well, this guy loves to talk, I mean talks out of his arse and that annoys the living crap out of me. I've tried to explain to him that I like to have a quiet night and just do the work and go home but he doesnt seem to understand. Aside from that he smokes like a freaking chimney every 10 minutes and every time he comes into the office this place just becomes engulfed with that BO and CIG stench.

My boss is new to being a boss and I know that he'll basically will say "deal with it" and not to anything about it, so no point in telling him. There is really no way to work with someone else unless they willingly take the shift.

I have enjoyed my work here for the past 9 months but since this guy started working with me I'm stressed out! Don't get me wrong I've worked with other people before and can get along fine as long as we understand each other, and as long as they dont freaking stink.

I'm just at a loss..

Sounds like it is time to establish boundaries. Just did this at work with someone else...

Decide what would be a reasonable compromise, such as when working, be quiet, or long and involved conversations either on the phone or with others need to be conducted elsewhere...

As for the cig smell, explain your issue, and ask if he has an idea of what to do about it... Compromise... There are some sprays you can use that kill the cig scent. We had to use this at the office but I cannot recall what it was. You can also pick up an air ionizer that will help eliminate the smell. As for him, well, :D there are sprays you can use... :D

Spray him with Lysol or Febreze every time he enters the office. He'll get the hint eventually.

Hey, he could always use a hose.... That would work with both issues too... Maybe not so calmly, but might be entertaining and definately a stress release....:D

I am, its a two phase move. First move my family (wife and kid), come back and work (good good money, it'd be stupid to leave it just like that, plus I gotta save) for 3-4 months with a complete move to be done by beginning of December, after that I hope to get into DEP and start my new life as a Marine!

See if you can arrive first and SPRAY the room with Lysol or some aerosol. When he comes in and notices the HEAVY fresh odor and asks what is going on...say you detected a foul odor and were trying to cover it up.

That's actually something I was thinking about because I know the cleaners have a real heavy lysol-type spray they use in the bathrooms, I may have to borrow one of those, but those are STRONG.

Problem is he smokes every 10 minutes like clockwork and I know that even that strong spray will get eaten alive. :rolleyes:
