What do you have for Thanksgiving dinner that isn't the usual turkey, cranberry stuff kinda thing? What are your family traditions?

LOL.. we used to have the traditional Italian Thanksgiving.. LOL
Homemade ravioli (with homemade sauce), beer, gnocchis, turkey, sweet potatoes (for Nonno), beer, homemade spaghetti, stuffing (homemade and StoveTop), and beer. Dessert would be pumpkin (for Nonno), sour cherry, apple, and blueberry pies.
Yes, there would be a LOT of leftovers.
Stump you are making me hungry....Stop that!
I wish our Thanksgiving was like that, but we usually are usually the plain janes...Ma' is an Engineer...not a cook! LMAO
LMAO talia... unfortunately the last 3 years haven't been like that. But now that I have the house, I can be the Italian cook in the kitchen!!!
I'm more of a baker though, but I can still whip up some pretty great meals.
Whose house can I come to for Thanksgiving? We already had our holiday here a while back, so I am looking for a foster Thanksgiving house for a bit, any offers?

Its my sister-in-laws turn to do Thanskgiving. She told us to meet her and her husband at Old Country Buffet. And we have to pay for ourselves and the kids. I am sooo peeved.
My mom stuffs a turkey and makes potatoes and gravy and yams and creamy salads and cake. My favorite thing is the homemade pies, especially apple, key lime and lemon merringue pies. Yum!
No one expects the spanish inquisition!
We had turkey this year because it was our turn and turkey is easy. When it is at my inlaws we have goose and potato dumplings and all sorts of other yummy stuff. She cooks a wicked goose.![]()
I have no idea of what we are doing for Thanksgiving this year. I believe we got two invites, but I'd rather stay home and have tukey burgers.....Thanksgiving is so exhausting. The drawback to going over to someone else's house is not having a place to crash and burn when the tryptophan kicks in. *sigh*

I was telling my sob story to my boss and how we would probably cook a turkey that weekend to make up for it. He is having his wife drive over and drop off their deep-fat fryer. I gotta go buy some peanut oil now.
Anyone ever deep fried a turkey???
My BIL has done that before....oh man was that good eats! You'l like it, but it's scary to deep fry food (if you ask me). The other thing that unnerves me in the kitchen is the pressure cooking method!?!?! Who came up with that idea???? I guess it's kinda like my balloon phobia....scared it might blow-up at any second. Heehee!
The left-overs will be missed....forgot about that.

I HATE pressure cookers!! I flinch everytime I walk by one. I just know they're gonna blow up. When my mom used hers for canning, I begged to do every chore on the list to get away from that thing.Originally posted by Island_Girl

OK, I have a 12 lb turkey. How much peanut oil do I need? And why peanut oil?
Peanut oil is good because it gets hot enough to crisp the outside of the Turkey but no hot enough to burn the inside. A very good catalyst. Be careful on the temperature though. If you are too hot you will cause a lot of problems. Too cold and you will have a greasy bird.
