    Lets us celebrate

I think that in life, we experience many things, both good and bad, and how we come through those times, how we reflect and how we grow in life's journey is the real testament of our life. I know that some of you have felt the bitter wind of betrayal, but we don't need to look too far for the warmth in our soul. I know the festive "spirit" is alive in all of us, you can't suppress it, it's time to let it bubble up, let it take over and celebrate the good things in our lives. Bring on the festive meals, the good friends and let us dance as if no one is watching. 2008 WILL BE a great year.
"The beauty of life is, while we cannot undo what is done, we can see it, understand it, learn from it and change. So that every new moment is spent not in regret, guilt, fear or anger, but in wisdom, understanding and love." ~ Jennifer Edwards

I have learned in my young life that every bad thing that happens to us is a test to help us grow into maturity. Not maturity in a physical sense, but rather in a spiritual sense. If we didn't have these trials we would never grow strong. We wouldn't know right from wrong, nor have a basic sense of direction. The focal point being is that at times, when we look at our troubles, we think of them as walls to block us. I see troubles as our ultimate guide to a better success of spiritual growth.

You know that December 25th used to be the holiday that the pagans celebrated the Winter Solstice and the birth of the Sun God. In the 5th century some time the Christians made it the time to celebrate the birth of Jesus (not really born in winter). They went from celebrating the Sun God to celebrating the SON of God! The old Christmas celebrations were basically a drunken Mardi Gra festival combined with a town wide orgy... I think we should go back to THAT celebration of Christmas!!! :D

It was a bit of weird year for me as well, but I'm not complaining, thank God we still have hope in us for things to get better.

Regardless of your beliefs, it's good to forget your troubles for a few days, let the worries of the past take care of themselves, now is not the time for such bah humbug thoughts . . . . . I raise my glass and toast to the good fortune that awaits us all, and to let us have our eyes open so we can see it when it arrives.

In the early days of this nation, Christmas wasn't celebrated like it is now... that's how Washington defeated the Hessians at... was it Trenton? Christmas was not the huge celebration for the colonies as it was for other Nations.

Of course, I'm beginning to believe that if it weren't for the tremendous marketing blitz that Christmas brought the retailers, and the Infinite excuse to party, it would be a rapidly declining tradition here, as well.

MMmm. I'm a bit "Humbuggy" lately...

I was more referring to Europe, not the States. The States was founded by people who, all in all, wanted to get away from Europe and the way things were done over there including the celebrations at Christmas. In fact the Christmas celebrations got soo bad that they actually did away with Christmas for something like 100 years. There is a lot of really interesting things to learn about history if you look them up, both good and bad. The more I read about every year the more I learn!

Given Australia was a penal colony, most of it was also founded by people that wanted to get away from Europe, well mainly the British government. And if they had got away, they wouldn't have been sent to Australia!!! :D

. . . the US was a penal colony and because they didn't like the poms and spat the dummy . . . . and had a war with them they had to find a new penal colony . . . US!!!! So . . . their squabble with the Brits is one of the reasons we were settled.
