    Angry Allergies anybody?

Lately I have noticed a LOT of people who normally are fine are being hit by it hard. I used to have bad ones then they stopped pretty much for 2 years and the past few days I thought I had Strep but I awoke today and realized its bad allergies. I took a Clairitin D and I am kinda out of it but kinda here.

    Anyone else?

I get them REALLY bad during the summer, especially when people are mowing their lawns or the farmers are shucking hay..(or whatever you call what they do with hay).

My nose runs like a firehose and my eyes get all red and itchy and my mind shuts off more than normal...and that's saying something, just read a couple posts of mine.

I used to take Sudefed for it, but that made me all light headed and half stupid so now I just suffer through it.

Pollen count at near record levels, no real winter to speak of to give me a break from them...yeah, I've been having allergies constantly since moving here. In PA I at least got a reprieve during the winter.

Never had them until a few years ago. Now they bother me every spring and fall. I usually take Benadryl and it helps a little. Likewise, my wife was never bothered by allergies until last spring, when she was pregnant. Got them horrible. She got them a little this year but not as bad as last year.

    Hockey,

There were some pretty good suggestions here.

I hope you get relief soon.

I have allergies, bad. Been through every allergy medication known to man. Right now i'm taking Zyrtac. When things go really bad, I will throw down a little Benadryl with a Claritan D chaser.

    Healthy? No
Probably kill me one day? Maybe

All I know is allergies suck, hard.

    There's non-drowsy bendryl.

I also use a product called Non-Drowsy Allergy Relief.

There was also another product that I used. It worked for twelve hours and it dissolves in your mouth. But I can't remember the name of it.

One thing I hate about allergies is the time they strike. Mine struck today while I was driving my car.

I heard that certain foods alleviate allergies. I've not really noticed though, because some of those foods I've eaten, and didn't notice anything at all.

But I suppose they're worth a try for those who haven't tried.

    Allergies suck!

I take old fashioned generic claritin (very cheap thru Kaiser pharmacy!)

What has helped the most.....and this will sound very gross.....is rinsing your sinuses out twice a day with saline.

You can get a neti pot, and mix your own solution. Or, like me, buy the jumbo bottle of saline at Target.

    It really works!!!

The thing about honey in kates thread is supposed to be really good. Have some everyday from local bees that way it acts as a kind of innoculation, you are getting some of the local pollen that is irritating you. worth a try if you can get some

hope it eases for you soon

Speaking of that thread, did you ever give that Zaditor a try?

StationM, do you use the store-bought saline in the Yeti pot (err, neti pot)? Or do you just jam the bottle up your schnoz? I might give it a whirl, but I can't be bothered to buy a teapot to stick in my nose. I'd look much less awkward and much more refined with just a plastic bottle up my sniffer. :D

I just use the Target bottle. :D You can hold it straight up for misting, which gives quick relief. Or, you do the head tilt, with slow drip for a deep clean.

No drowsy side affects, just a little drippy for a couple of minutes (with the deep clean method)

Since my allergies appear every year about the 25 of August.
I go in and have the doctor give me a shot of depamederol (sp?)on the 20th.
It is an anti inflamatory drug and last about 30 days.
It keeps the sinuses from going wild and allow you to use over the counter
meds to control what is left.
Some of the OTC meds make me really drowsey and this is a better solution for me.
On a clear night, I can see the other deputies emergency lights at least 10 miles away.
But it isnt flat here LOL
