having a forum where we could "roast" one another. Kind of a playful deal, where only those willing to participate can participate and roast others who are willing to be roasted.
I think that'd be good for alot of laughs. What do you all think?

Roast?
You mean like a Flaming board?
You must have something on your mind. Or Someone you feel like "Roasting"
:p
"So, you don't know how fast you were going. I guess that means I can write anything I want on the ticket, huh?"
Negative! Let me be the first to shoot this plan down (sorry). We have enough friendly banter here that goes a long way. IMHO, there is no such thing as "Kind of a playful deal" when it comes to singling someone out to specifically "fry" them. LMAO.
I know what you are trying to say, but there is a fine line between being funny and being hurtful in this manner. Again, just my opinion.....who knows, Jason may love it!

I have heard a section like this on forums called "The Boxing Ring". Not to bad...Keeps it all in one place so that those who care not to see how "long" someone is persay don't have to...and allows others to duke it out...One on one while not loosing sight of the thread they are distroying.
Though I hate plagerising (sp) so you would have to come up with some other name I think.
But I agree with IG...We already have enough and it is not done in good humor as I have seen it done on other forums.
Seeing it is a Police Messgae board, we could call it the Ummm,
Jail House Rock!
:P

Seems to already be happening on a regular basis. I don't think it would be a productive forum area though.
Creeper Cop
Roasting someone is not making fun of them, it is celebrating them in a way. I think you guys are looking at this as a negative thing, when in fact it is done to celebrate people that have made a positive contribution to something.

I was under the impression that Cobra meant in general. Like how they roast people on ComedyCentral. Just for fun, pick a member and we all gang up to pick and poke fun at them. I see the humor in that, but I didn't think it was a good idea.
As for setting aside an area for people who are actually bantering back and forth over a disagreement, we DO have a place for that.....in your PM, perhaps your Yahoo, or might you try the ever-popular AIM (note the sarcasm). There's always MSN Messenger too.....did I mention RP chat? Just remember to keep it clean or take it to a private area.

I have never even heard the term "Roasting" before, Unless of Course your making supper.
I thought he meant a Flaming Board, where if you have a disagreement with someone on a topic you can battle it out in there, no holds bar.

When you roast someone, you might come up with some embarassing stories or something, and you get a good laugh out of it. But it's a celebration of their achievements. At least that is how they do it for the big media stars or something.

I had talked to Cobra last night about starting something like this. I guess all the posts about the 70's and 80's shows made me remember how Dean Martin, Ali, Johnny Carson, well you get the idea - it was people that were admired, looked up to that were roasted. It was done in good taste, and they enjoyed it. I can, however, after thinking it over see how it could get out of hand. Some folks tolerance level is not as high as others, i.e. the avatar thing. So, let's just forget it.

Thats why I was thinking of making it for only people that WANT to participate in it, can participate. If they dont want to be roasted, they simply wont be roasted, if they want to be roasted, they'll be roasted.
I would say no. Busty, you're right, some tolerance levels are not as high as others.
It has been proven time and time again that the typed word can sometimes get misinterpreted. People forget that the reader cannot see body language, tone of voice, and the intent of the message.
I think roasting would turn into an insult board, and as mcsap, it seems to be happening enough already.
Cobra - let's just let it go. I truly only meant to have some fun on the board, definitely not at anyone else's cost. STUMP you are right - I could type something and without ya seeing the smirk on my face it could be misinterpreted.
 now let's all sit back and have a few beers and watch TV

The people that are game for it though aren't going to care what is said about them. They know ahead of time that it would be coming. I don't see the problem.
