    vacation ideas

Where do you vacation and what do you do there?

I need an idea for a nice week's vacation.
Its that time of year again when we have our vacation picks at work. We go by seniority, and everyone picks our full weeks of vacation, and those weeks we pick are guaranteed. So, we have to decide WHEN to go on vacation, and where.
I live in NY, and the last vacation was a cruise. The cruise was great, but we want to experience different things before going on another.
We have some thoughts - Disney (FL) in October, Vegas, Arizona (his hometown), or possibly England (but that would be a 2 week vacation, and too expensive). I can't do beaches because I am fair skin and can't handle a lot of sun.

3 co-workers, myself, and the 4 wives have rented a beach house at Nag's Head NC in August. Cost is 500 per couple for the week. You said you can't do beaches but you're willing to do the desert?

This wont really help you, but I've always wanted to see the ocean. I'd love to walk my goofy dog down the beach, right next to the waters edge. But, since I don't fly (in airplanes  ), it's kinda hard to get there from here. So usually we go to Chicago for a couple of days and see Lake Michigan. Not even close by anyones standards, but, it'll do for now!!

Gulf Shores, Alabama rules!! It' on a nice peninsula with the Gulf of Mexico on one side and Mobile Bay on the other, and beautiful white sand beaches! The Gulf Shores Condos are right on BOTH beaches, you haave a beach on each side, it's great!!! You can go see Fort Morgan, an old Civil War fort, that's always neat. They have some great golf courses down there. There's also all kinds of bike trails, hiking trails and parks in the area!

Nashville, Tennessee is a cool place to go too. You've got the Grand Ole Opry, Jack Daniels Festival, and some beautiful golf courses!

It would also be fun to rent a cottage on Lake Michigan during the spring. There are quite a few places around Indiana Dunes State Park. You can spend the week boating, fishing, swimming and hiking! It's great fun for the outdoorsy type!

If you want to do some outdoor things Tennessee has some great biking trails and white water rafting (Ocoee River, '96 Olympic kyaking was held here). I have been to Nashville a few times, and I really enjoyed it. I'm not much of one for country music though, but it is a nice city.

If I only had a week, personally I don't think plane fare overseas would be worth it, I'd probably stay home and relax.

Florida Keys. Go every year. Was actually looking at Key West PD for a slot until I found out they only pay about 17$ an hour.

Correction, Bob! ;) It used to rule before Hurricane Ivan. Now it looks like doo-doo. Half the condos are on the ground, Hooters is on it's side, the little fair is gone, no boardwalk, the fishing pier is gone, most of the shops are gutted and you certainly don't want to walk the trails because the gators are livid. They are trying to re-establish their grounds and are out of control. The soundside is littered with debris and the beachside is all piled up because they are re-silfting the sand. :( I live right around the corner in Pensacola near Perdido Key which is also a mess right now.

I'd go to New Orleans. It's mardi gras season! We have the mardi gras here too but this place looks worse than Gulf Shores right now.

    I love the mountain states.
Colorado is beautiful, it is an amazing change of scenery from the midwest.

Every state, IMO, has something to offer that can refresh your spirits so it really depends on what you would like to do.

I would recomend taking a nice trip to Mexico, either Cozumel...or Mazatlan.

I love to lay on the beach, soak the arys and live the nightlife! Just got back from Miami, COzumel, Belize, Costa Maya and Grand Cayman last Sunday..! Cayman is still a bit tossed from the Cane but still nice!

    My 2 cents....
