Recently I got stuck on 3rd shift here at work, due to one of our Officers getting deployed to Iraq along with his National Gaurd Unit. For those that dont know, I am a Security Officer on a College Campus. Anyway..
This morning around 0130 Local PD, gets a call from a local reference Suspicious Persons in one of the Parking Lots here on Campus. I had just made a Patrol of the area about 15-20 min proir to the Dispatch of the Run, and hadnt seen a single thing other than lots of snow. After following an extremely intoxicated Student to his dorm, (to insure he made it without breaking his neck) I start for the other side of campus and see the PD units (about 6 Officers) in the Parking Lot and stop to inquire as to whats going on. And the Fun began :D.
First arriving Officer observed a male subject leaning into a Blue S10, with the Drivers side door open and the Dome light on. Approaching the subject, the Officer asked him if the vehicle belonged to him. Subject stated, "no its not my car" and when asked by the Officer why he had just been in the vehicle, the subject smartly replies "I wasnt in the truck". While in the middle of the investigation, the other Officers noticed footprints going up to almost every single car in the parking lot ( its a small lot with about 20 parking spaces) and the fresh snow brushed away from small portions of the window.
The footprints end up belonging to the subject and another male subject (both students of the College) and when asked by the Officers why they what they were doing walking around all the vehicles in the lot, the subject stated that he had been looking for his car, an 80's model Grand Prix  , and just continues to lie through his teeth. Meanwhile I was able to track down the owner of the vehicle at the request of the Officers and it was found that a laptop that had been hidden under a seat and back against the wall of the cab, had been moved to the floor board and was in plain sight. Meanwhile the suspect is swearing up and down that he had not been in the truck, and that he had not been looking into other cars in the lot.
Lmao, he even went as far as to tell the Sgt. that he was lying about those footprints belonging to him. End result, one would-be thief went to the pokey.
To any would be thiefs or future thiefs, beware of a lil thing called snow, it will tell on you quicker than ur lil brat sister would.
