    Step 2 for me.

Motor Carrier and DNR just mailed their packets so I can continue the process with them if I so choose.

I was like WTF that was fast as all hell.

The one major difference between the Motor Carrier job and the DNR Conservation Officer job is that MCO are not state certified police officers in Michigan.

My thinking is this. Get in with one of them and when MSP decides to run a bunch of academies in the next few years I will be ready for them and all I have to do is request transfer of job title and refill out the application and then I would just slide into the troop academy. MSP, MCO and DNR acadamies are all different and you have to attend that peticullar school to work that specific job. No biggie for me at least, I can hack that part.

What are your thoughts? (Serious ones this time)

Should I try to get in with Motor Carrier (MCO) or DNR for the time being and wait it out until the MSP gig opens up?

    Thanks.

Hunters can easily shoot back because chances are they do have a weapon. Like the outdoors? Maybe that shoe fits you. Want to deal with trucks all day? Maybe that's better. I think either would be good to get you noticed when an academy date comes around. But then again, I've only been to Michigan once, and that was Lansing so what do I know. Is a DNR Conservation Officer basically a game warden? Of the two, I think I'd go with that (personally). Just sounds like you'd have more room to roam. Either way, YOU GO BIOTCH! Sorry, had to joke a little bit.

    YES, Darrell, GO FOR IT!

Its a foot in the door, you can always leave for MSP.

You would be driving around in your Dodge Ram truck, with your new quad loaded on the back.

    Why wouldn't you want that!?!??!

A foot in the door NOW is better than looking in from the outside for the next_____months or years. How easy of a transition is it from the Motor Carrier/DNR jobs to reg MSP duties ?

Not that I am biased in ANY( ) way but Motor Carrier is a great speciality that you will be able to use even if you go on to become a regular trooper.

Hey darrell the DNR is very cool.

If you end up going that route I hope you have a good sense of direction, if not then I hope you know how to use a compass.

Not that hard from what I am being told. The thing is that in about 2-3 years there will no longer be a Motor Carrier Division. They will intagrate the 2 into just MSP. That means all MCO will have to go back to school to fullfill the MCOLES requirements to be fully certified as Police Officers and not Civilians with badges and guns on duty. Even though the MCD is a division of the MSP there is no love loss between them. Troops hate the MCO'S and the MCO'S hate the troops. The hatred is because of the certification issue, not being a real full fleged troop and that 90% of our states MCO'S are butt *** lazy as hell. The merge would mean that troops will have to test for the MC spots as a special unit type of thing and then go to school like the AI's do for training. The troops want nothing to do with the trucks in the least bit.

As for me I would re-apply with MSP, re-take the physical agility test then they would go over all my performance reviews then make the yes/no decision. At that point I would have to quit the MCD to go back to the academy again. Mainly because they want you to learn how to be a troop and unlearn how to be a truck chaser.

I am a street officer ( well Sgt) AND a truck chaser. Being dually certified actually is nice to have and because there are only 250 of us in the entire STATE, we get asked to assist other departments with special details etc.

Our full time Motor Carrier guys are not "cops" and don't carry a gun BUT do have police powers to make traffic stops and issue citations. We get along with them just fine.

I know both of our local DNR CO's here and they are both cool guys. The one guy John poaches calls from the county when his job is slow since their are state certified.
