halt current career while waiting for PD?

I have been with my current company for 7 years. Right now I am middle management and have a chance to be promoted to upper management. If I want the position it is mine to take and I will be opening up a new branch of the company. Right now im in the BG check for a dept. and dont know if I should take the position in case I get called up soon for the dept. However I would hate to pass it up if it takes a long time for the PD. I think it would leave a bad taste in the companies mouth if I said I was leaving abruptly and put in my 2 week notice. This was my first real job and I dont want to screw the company or jeapordize a reference......What the hell should I do?....lol

It took me two years of testing, interviewing etc to get my job. My advice is do the BEST job you can at your company and like ANYBODY else who has a dream, if you decide to leave , do it by the book. EVERYBODY is replaceable , they'll manage without you and someday, my dept. will mange without me.

One other item to remember. In some places 25 to 50 people are applying for the same job.

Stay where you are at and if you get accepted then you can put in your 2 week notice.
