Anybody else hate Communism?

This thread isn't really about anything other than me venting my hatred for communism/marxism. I go to University where everyone is a left wing pinko and above all a police hater. This website is the only place where I can talk to some conservative capitalists like myself.

I don't think many institutions of higher learning go any way but down the liberal path. I think that's because that level of education is inherently pro-government for monetary reasons. Don't let it deter your ability to get the most out of it. Afterwards, rest assured you got everything out of them as possible. Reps for you bro.

I spent over half of my military career training and equipping to "kill" communists, beyond all recognition. I don't want to be one. Believe me, as screwed up as this country can be, it's the best gig going. Embrace it.

Me too...the general beginning thought and premise is not all that bad...its is more in the way it is carried out that makes it bad.

Why assume those are the only two choices? I prefer a Free Republic myself. A Capitalistic society run by an elected government according to a constitution, overseen by a free press with a high court created to apply the constitutional principles to the daily machinations of the law.
Oh wait...we have one of those(despite the efforts of the Communists to subvert it.)

Well, as DC pointed out, we live in a Republic, not a true Democracy. There is a difference. But it is not an all together gigantic one. A pure democracy is not at all practical - especially when it concerns a nation our size. A Republic is a type of managed democracy. Now, we could debate the conditions of "free" as applied to that Republic, but we wont get into that here and now :D

A would offer only this - What's so intrinsically wrong about Communism? I would suggest that the biggest failing of Communisn is people. A nation or group of nations who have decided to end elitism, end all social, political, and economic caste systems and live as recognized equals is a type of ideal society and deserves respect for the thought. Imagine a world in which we were all equals. The major failing is that human nature just will not allow this. Try as we might, we will never be able to seperate completely our idealism and intellect from the baseness of our humanity that makes us "want" more that our neighbors. An instinctual 'keeping up with, or past, the Joneses' if you will. The Catholic Church is clever in making the Deadly Sins deadly - they are all aspects of our human nature. To be able to control them is one thing - to eliminate them from our being is something else entirely. Honestly, I don't think we can do it. We will always want more, or Envy, our neighbors and friends. We will always feel some measure of elitism. And I think we should. I would not want to live in a world in which the concept of self is sacrificed for the concept of us. Even for a marriage to be successful one must have a real understand of "I" before there can be an understanding of "We". A nation of people without drive, without personal ambition, will stagnate and die. And will be ripe for Demigouges and Fascism.

Soviet Communism was a failure for two main reasons: The leaders of the Revolution were so anti-Tsar and anti-elite that they were "fair" to the point or repression. Unbeknownst to them, this is a form of elitist caste. Secondly, the concept of Communism, while a noble idea, on a national scale is endemically flawed by our human nature.

And Hell yes - I'd bomb some Fascists, too.

I subscribe to the theory of the political wheel, that is if you go to the extremes of left or right they meet and are indistinguishable.

Communism is not de facto a totalitarian dictatorship - Soviet Communism was.

Isn't Communism an economic system while Fascism is a system of government? You could have both. You could (conceivably) have a Communist Democracy, or a Capatalist Fascist State. Apples and Oranges...?

pure communism would work if there weren't greedy *** people invloved. same reason big business usually isn't all that 'fair'. Profit usually means taking corners in some form or another. That's the problem though, at least for the world as it is now, there are more greedy people than not. I'm one of them and I assume most people here are to. just 'human' nature, most of the world covets things.


you know as a side-note, just something funny I think. The 'world' created in Star-Trek, at least 'starfleet' operated under a pure communist economy I think, or at least that's what it appeared to be anyhow. No one said anything about this, even though it started what 30 years ago (even though it was after mcCarthy it was still during the cold war)

As was Red Chinese Communism, Cuban Communism, Nicaraguan Communism, Eastern European Communism...

yeah, exactly beacuse people of this world are greedy (wealth, power, etc what have you), and that pretty much kills true communism right there.
