Questions about New York City Department of Corrections?

I have a few questions about NYC DOC that I hope you guys can help me with.

    1. I know CO's can buy their own gun from a list to carry off duty with permission from the warden but do they also need a NYPD pistol permit or does the warden give them a NYPD pistol permit when he grants permission? Is this permit tough for a CO to get?

    2. I heard NYC CO's are considered Law Enforcement Officer's so does that mean they can carry their gun across state lines like the NYPD under the Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act?

    3. Someone told me that NYPD officers need a permit to purchase a gun from their boss, is this true? Is that how CO's do it?

    HAHAHAHA!! lol.

Sorry, I'm from AZ and from what I can tell I have more pistol carry options and arrest authority as a civilian than off-duty LEO's in New York and their inbred cousin, New Jersey.

Actually, I'm sure Joeyd6 knows the answer to your question. NJ recently trusted him to carry a pistol and maybe even buy ammo for it. You might get better traffic in Ask a Cop. You can PM a moderator to move it (marinepilot and Joeyd6 are pretty active and will respond as soon as they can).

Not sure they would allow a bunny to carry a weapon.

As peace officers, NYC corrections are exempt from licensing (see NYS PL sections 400 & 265). Unlike newer peace officer designations who require permits Active CO's do not need Permits to purchase firearms. There is a request process they need to go thru where they get authorization from NYSP after selecting the gun they want. Police Officers in NYS don't have this requirement, just show ID, pay for the firearm and complete a Form C to to NYSP. Agency's like NYPD have more specific hoops to jump thru (see patrol guide) but they don't need to request permission if purchasing from a dealer or between NYPD MOS.
