New Member, but plenty of experience

    Hi,

I am currently 25 and I have just completed an associate's program in Business Administration w/a concentration in Human Resources. Upon graduating, I immediately began a bachelor's program in Criminal Justice w/a concentration in Corrections. My desire in life is to simply help citizens of all nation's live in a fair and just environment, while at the same time understanding justice is not always found in the hands of humans. Although I have never been charged with a criminal offense other than a first-offense DUI, I have had a great deal of experience with government entities. I believe it is imperative to to for government entities create a personal yet interdependent operational system, as this helps optimize efficiency and effectiveness, which ultimately leads to lower crime rates and increases citizens abilities to access community resources.

Welcome to RP. What do you have experience in?

Usually "never" means never, not only once.

I remember when I was 25 (yeah, I can remember that far back) and got out of the Army after serving 6 years. I thought because I'd seen some combat and completed OCS that I was pretty hot stuff and knew everything too. Fortunately, I was smart enough not tell other people that. After being hired as a cop, I was sure glad that I didn't! We did have a guy who was 22, just out of college and had been everywhere and done everything! Oh, did he suffer for that.

My experience with the CJ system ranges from educational classes to being the person sitting on the witness stand pleading the fifth. I have attended and completed rehabilitation programs for substance abuse programs, and many of my nights have been spent researching for data that supports the fact that substance abuse users need to be rehabilitated (over and over and over if need be) instead of thrown in a facility where they in no way benefit society.

Sorry to burst your bubble but you really don't know much at all. As has been pointed out, people in this line of work WHO HAVE BEEN DOING THE JOB for 10, 15, 20 years (etc) ARE STILL LEARNING. It would have been better if you had said "SOME personal experience" rather than "plenty".

Well, thankfully I have no bubble to burst, so no need for you to be sorry. I FULLY understand that this line of work is one that continually changes and even a person with 100+ years of experience would agree that it is one in which a person always continues to learn new things. I stated that I have plenty of experience because I have been on the other side of the spectrum in this line of work. Not many individuals have been on the other side and come back to 'maybe' work within the field.

Interesting. So what you're saying is that you don't really have any experience at all? At least not in police work anyway. You know, the entire purpose of this forum and all...

I'll put my neck out there and say that you'll never work in law enforcement in a sworn capacity.
