Hello everyone my name is Cody, I am 19 living in south east michigan and currently going for my associates in criminal justice - law enforcement. I go to a local community college and should have my degree in december. As for further education (though I really dont want to) I will probably end up going to Ferris State University for my batchelor's degree and hopefully find a PD in my area, although I am prepared to move anywhere. My goal in law enforcement right now is to get into a large jurisdiction PD preferably state and get to be a K-9 handler. Although we did just have a speaker on private security come in and talk to one of my classes the other day and it doesn't sound to shabby to investigate/not get shot at and possibly make six figures. But also you should do what you love and not for the money.
My Father is former MSP (Michigan State Police) and retired in 03' with 25 years, though he has been retired for 8 years he still feels like has it in him to jump back into a blue goose and be back on the road. My Father is the one of the many reasons why I am getting into this field. Though I was still young back when he was in his "hay day" seeing him in that blue suit with a badge and shiny gun belt made me feel like he was the "man" so to say and I wanted to be that guy. Its also nice to see that I can run into a troop from the southern end of his old district and his name is known. Currently he works for one of the courts as a bailiff part time. (some say its the retiree's dream job) And loves to come home and tell me about the possible *** kickings he has had to hand out.
I just stumbled along this site looking for some reading material I can write about, on the topic of interviewing, for one of my classes. Also I find forums to be an awesome source of information. Last November I started breeding fish and found a forum specialized to my fish and I cannot tell you how much I have learned. And currently I only have about 12-15 LEOs either current or retired that I can talk to or ask questions, this forum will bring things to a whole new level.
Ah so anyways that is it for now I need to get started on this paper especially if the weather is going to be nice enough to golf in tomorrow!
