    IrishCop

Hello Members, I followed the Irish Immigrant tradition and became an IrishCop, not in America but Australia.

I belong to several other Law Enforcement Forums and finally got around to joining RealPolice.

I prefer Forums that relate to international topics and not just local.

    Cheers.

Welcome aboard. The Sarge just recently gorged himself on some Irish food and drink thanks to Saint Patrick.

I'll have some Bushmills in honor of your arrival.
Of every one hundred men, ten should not even be here. Eighty are nothing but targets. Nine are real fighters, and we are lucky to have them, for they make the battle. Ah, but the One... One of them is a Warrior... He will bring the others back.

    "Wrong door, buddy!"

Let no man's ghost say my training failed him.

So does this mean you are a law enforcement officer in either Ireland or Australia?

OfficerKelly, please answer my question above, as it seems you're making the claim to being a cop/LEO, and if so you will need to be verified to keep the username you've selected (site rules dictacte only LEOs can have username that imply they are cops).

    Thanks.

Aw no, don't tell me this place is full of AussieCops, I came here for the quiet life.

I see that Oscarmitre is the Mod for the International Section.

Anyhow, only Joking, the main reason I registered for this Forum was that they appeared to also cater for those from other countries besides the US.

    Cheers.

    No worries.

Yes, I am indeed claiming to be a Police Officer, although it will be as a Retired Police Officer.

    I didn't answer your question,

"So does this mean you are a law enforcement officer in either Ireland or Australia?"

because I thought you might have twigged when I said,

"I followed the Irish Immigrant tradition and became an IrishCop, not in America but Australia"

Policing was a traditional role for Irish Immigrants to such countries as America, Australia and Canada to such an extent that Irish Police Officer Associations or Emerald Societies were formed in these countries and still exist today.

The term IrishCop became a common term, particularly in the larger US cities where the Irish had a hold on those Police Forces.

Irish-Americans of second, third, and fourth generation have continued to populate civil service jobs, particularly in police departments across the nation.

The Irish cop, like the Irish politician, has long been a legendary figure…The police forces of many large cities have continued to be heavily Irish Catholic long after the great wave of Irish immigration subsided and long after the spread of mass education.

The collapse of anti-Irish discriminatory practices, and the growth of the urban middle class should have made police work a career of diminishing value to a group so long in this country. Wilson offers two explanations about why Irish-Americans continue to populate the police forces in large cities.

First, they appear to benefit from a promotional system that is biased in their favor and this view is substantiated by many non-Irish. Another belief is that Irish-Americans who serve as police officers have been brought up in “police families.” Having been raised in these families, these officers have associated with other police officers, networked, and grown accustomed to a lifestyle that is inherent to them.

Wilson, J. 1964. Generational and Ethnic Differences Among Career Police Officers.

Australia was a little different in the early pioneering days in that many of its Police Forces were founded on the command structure of the Royal Irish Constabulary and thus attracted many Officers from that Force. Of course history tells us that many of the Bush Rangers were also Irish. The Officers who were shot by the Bush Ranger Ned Kelly were all Irish.

Anyhow, enough of the rambling and I hope I have answered your question.

    Cheers for now.

    OfficerKelly-

Welcome aboard, and thanks for clearing up the confusion regarding your status. If you send a PM to a mod (which you may well have already done) with your information in it, they will get you verified ASAP.

    Thanks again, and welcome!

OfficerKelly, You have answered the question well enough when you stated you were claiming to be a retired officer. Please check the Verified LEO Guidelines and PM one of the verifiers (most likely Oscarmitre since you seem to be from outside America) and send him the info needed so he may verify you as a true retired LEO. If you take too long or Oscar is unable to verify you in a timely manner, then you will have to PM one of the Moderators with a change of nickname, as "OfficerKelly" will not be allowed unless you are verified as a retired LEO.

Hmmm, I don't like the tone of your post, you come across as a bit of a Smart Arse and I sure do seem to be outside of America saying as I live in Australia.

Assuming that Oscarmitre is still an active member I would have no problem getting verification from him for I have had a long association with him as a Verified Officer on an Australian Police Website.

    Anyhow, after this................
