Glad to have you with us, John. Thank you for your service. Good luck with the USMS application. You just missed the largest hiring initiative in the history of the agency. It appears that there will be huge cuts across the G next fiscal year, so there will not be a lot of slots anywhere. However, with military and a 4 year degree, you should be a pretty competitive candidate.
You could always get in with a local/state department to get LE experience... then you will have all 3 "package-builders" covered (very rarely is MP experience considered LE experience). With military, a 4 yr degree and LE experience (and a clean background), you should fall into the "most competitive" category for most fed hiring.
