Hi all. I'll get it out of the way right now and admit that I am in no way associated with law enforcement. I am a screenwriter, and a couple of the projects I'm working on involve police responses to situations. I am here for information from knowledgeable people because, well, research is king.

As a fiction writer, I want to assure everyone that I have no interest in either slandering law enforcement or fudging procedural details. I don't presume that getting involved in an online community is a substitute for actual, first-hand experience with an officer (ride-alongs, interviews, etc.).

That being said, I'm going to head over to the ask-an-officer forum and start lurking.

While you're in that part of the forum you might want to see how other "screenwriters" wound up being treated for the questions they asked on a public site.

Ride-a-Longs and one-on-one interviews with cops is really the only feesible way that I can see about how to get details about departmental procedures. Verified LEOs on this site are wary and cautious about giving out departmental procedure guidelines on a public forum.
