Hi there,

My names Martyn and I live across the pond in England. I've worked as a Dispatcher for my local Constabulary for just over eight years, and have been reading the forum for a while now, enjoying the subtle differences between the two Policing styles of the U.S. and the U.K.. Actually, it's far from subtle. I guess the difference is you are Law ENFORCEMENT Officers, where as in the U.K. it seems we are more concerned about hurting the feelings of the person we're detaining! I'm also a Special Constable, which from what I gather is like your Auxiliary Officers. Over here we're sworn in the same as a regular officer, have the same uniforms and powers as the regular officers, and get sent to the same jobs. I've been doing that for over nine years naw and am lucky enough to be posted to our marine unit for the last five years. Outside of the job I enjoy ice hockey and used to play defense for our local team (until the rink folded) and loosely follow the Toronto Maple Leafs (I'm not sure I should be admitting to that so soon but my sister is Canadian...), and love SCUBA diving. If anyone has any questions about anything in the U.K. then please feel free to ask. Anyway, all the best and stay safe out there.

It's awful!! Mostly rain, hail a couple days ago and even had to scrape the frost off the windscreen after a late shift! Still, soon be Christmas!

Hi there, I'm enjoying browsing through the posts so thought I'd pop in a say helllo. One of my favorites so far is a post about buying a gun for home protection. Caliber, revolver, semi or shotgun.... Certainly not something I've had to consider! If someone grabs whatever is to hand to defend their home here then they're just as likely to get arrested as whoever's doing over their house. Something to do with the offenders human rights. As far as I'm concerned they should leave whatever rights they have at whatever point they broke in through. However that's a whole different discussion!!

Are you a fellow Brit too? Heated grips are a luxury I've never had. I've just sold my CBR600RR as being a fair weather rider and the rubbish summers I couldn't justify the running costs anymore.
