Career change

Hello Everyone,

I'm a 21 yr employee with a large telephone company and have the opportunity to retire early and pursue what I've always wanted which is a career in LE. I'm still young and I've applied to the Arlington Texas PD. They called yesterday and confirmed my application questions then offered me an invitation to come down October 15th. I'm currently living in PA but want to relocate closer to our families in Texas, Arizona, and California. The 15th will be for the initial interview and the physical fitness test. The investigator that I spoke to said that since I'm travelling from out of state she would see if she could arrange for me to get some other testing out of the way the following week if I wanted. I have to call the first week in October to see if she was successful. Are there any others on here that either work for this PD or have gone before me through the process? I'd sure like to be in touch and learn what I can. I've only applied to this department at this point. I'm in great physical shape and I'm mildly familiar with the whole process but reading some posts on the oral and poly made me question if I really know how to best prepare. I'll continue to read posts and learn online. The books are plenty but I wonder which are really worth their cost so I haven't purchased any. Again, just saying hello and looking to make some good friends in the profession or potentials like myself.

Good call looking for LE work outside of PA, I wouldnt recommend anyone work in this state, especially if you have no ties here....

Can I get a job down there, Safety Steve? Somedays I fantasize about leaving my old world behind and going to a totally different one, and doing something I've never done before Your DPS idea - in Texas - fits the slot just about right, lol.

Some days, boy...some days......

Well if some Texan could teach me how to catch cattle and chickens, I had some land to grow herbs and veggies, ride a bike to work, and buy one of those nice new fabricated homes I could live on lots less than the cost of living up here in DC....

Btw, this is my answer for people's economic woes....spend UNDER their means.....
