I know you're a serious guy, mcsap, but I have to tell you that gave me quite the chuckle. Especially since I expect serious things to come out of your mouth. So it has even more comical punch. GD2J's the same way. You'll be reading his posts thinking, "ok whose butt is GD2J going to chew now" and voila, it's a comical zinger. Well, then sometimes it's just him chewing butt.

You gentlemen talk about ride-a-longs like it's an established program in many places. If I were to call my local police dept up and ask to do a ride-a-long, are they likely to have one?
One of my local police depts has a ride-along program for private citizens (providing you pass the background check obviously). The sheriff's office restricts theirs to those attending BLET.
I went on one with the city...it was awesome. I got done with my 8hrs and the shift supervisor asked if I wanted to keep riding...so I got in another car and started the whole thing overAlthough this time at the suggestion of the supervisor I actually put my vest on since it was the graveyard shift and we were heading into the "drug-deal" side of town lol
From what I've seen it varies from dept to dept. Call and ask...

Just had a chance to look at the px. Profoundly true of many occupations. When I was in the Air Force, many of the best pilots I knew were throwing in the towel for the same reason. But we suffer the same fate in every professional occupation I can think of.
