    Hello from California.

    Hey Fellow hopefuls and Officers,

My name is Bill and I've been lurking for a bit and decided to finally post to get some much needed advice to make myself a more appealing candidate for a PD.

A little background on me, the short story. I grew up in CA, been here since I was 4. Skip all the dumb stuff to when I went to college at 18. I did a dumb thing or two in college and I experimented with MJ. As in, took 6 separate drags over the course of 12 parties. Nothing more. I'm not happy about it but it's part of my past. I'm 25 now and I haven't done that or even been around it since I was 18.

I've applied to two different PDs, CHP and SF Sheriff. I failed the Oral Board with CHP because of my work history, lots of 1 year or less type jobs at the time. And SF Sheriff I failed the written test. I guess I just got cocky during the SF Sheriff written test.

Now I'm 25 and I've been waiting for PDs to open up the hiring pools again. I'm actually planning on going through the academy on my own dollar and submitting applications with the cert. PDs around me are still hiring academy grads and attendees, just not entry level hopefuls.

I plan to do a modular academy because I currently have a full-time job and I don't have the ability to quit my job. Because I'm doing the modular academy I will apply to be a reserve officer once I complete the first mod to build some rep with the PD I really want to work for.

Anyways, for the BIs on this forum what do you think of me at first glance? I'm not perfect, I have a strong head on my shoulders, death doesn't bother me, I've never been arrested or been convicted for any misdemeanors or felonies, I have no problem giving tickets or anything to family members or friends, if you tell me a procedure I will follow that to the letter until you tell me to do it differently, I have changed my walk in life to someone that cares about society and the laws within it.
