My boyfriend was told that a restraining order/ order of protection was filed on him 2 months ago.. He has yet to receive anything relating to a restraining order/ order of protection.... He was also told that it was posted in a news paper & he cant do anything about it.. I wanna know if what he has been told is true.. Can a restraining order/ order of protection be active if you didn't receive any papers or any type of notification?

Where are you? Every state and town has their own laws, and we aren't mind readers.
Also, have you or your boyfriend tried talking to the police in your town? They are much more likely to know the specific facts of this case than are anonymous cops on the Internet.
