Hi... I'm new here and I feel honored to be among you. I hope that being a 62 year old wanna be is permissible. I've always wanted to be a LEO but my health problems kept me from becoming one, although I do try to help out the LEO'S in my area, including Animal Control issues. I also take them goodies every week to show my appreciation for all that they do. One day I got the biggest thrill while talking to a Sheriff I had just met and after telling him about how I try to help them and how much I wish I was one of them he said, "You are." I'll never forget those two little words that meant so much. Now I would like to say the following:
As I continually tell the officers in my area .... THANK YOU for putting you lives on the line everyday for us. I often wonder if people truly realize just how dangerous your job really is, or what kind of person you have to be to do your kind of work. As I see it....it takes someone with split second reflexes, iron clad patients, suburb intuition, and enormous strength both physically and mentally. You must be 'on guard' with everyone you meet while on the job and yet act perfectly normal when at home with family and friends. You must be gentle enough to tend to a child and yet strong enough to take down the most powerful foe, sometimes within the same breath. You must see and deal with things that would put most people over the edge and still be able to sleep at days end. Just knowing that any one of everyone that you deal with each day could turn on you at any given moment is often not thought about by those that don't do your job. All they can do is complain when they are caught at doing something wrong. Whenever I mention these things to the officer's in my area they usually tell me that it's no biggy because they love doing what they do..... but we'd be in one heck of a mess if no one cared to do, or had enough guts to do, the job that yall do. With this, I thank yall for being the special ones that give us peace of mind. Be safe.
P.S. I tried fix up my personal profile in my User CP dealy bob (sorry, I'm not a computer whiz) but it says that I can't do anything yet, so no avatar pic, etc., are on here yet. Why can't I set up my profile, etc., am I too new?
