    Hi

    Hi everyone!

I just graduated a couple of months ago
I had to do 2 ride-a-longs for my senior project, both of them I did in my small city. Most people used to joke about how the cops in our town don't have much to do...Definitely not true lol. Especially since I went on a friday night and a Sunday night.

Both of the officers were awesome, totally down to earth guys. Both of them got me really interested in someday becoming a cop.

Since I'm 18, I'm going to go the college route first. People were saying not to go for the CJ major, because then you may no longer want to be a cop someday and you'll be stuck within a small field of choices.

So right now I'll be trying out a journalism class(school newspaper) and beginning photography class. Thinking Photojournalism major. Much more interested in being a cop, but I'm pretty good at writing and enjoy photography. For awhile I was thinking maybe I could go the Military Police route instead of college, but if I do that I don't think I'll end up wanting to continue my education at all. Just seems easier to try to get school done while I'm still willing to sit in classes all day :P Plus the older I get, things might pop up, jobs, wife, kids.

Anyway...I'm not really 100% toward any career. I want to find my dream job, and I'll probably be changing as a person within the next few years. Hopefully gaining some muscles since that is my current doubt as to being a police officer.

You've got plenty of time to sort things out. Do the best you can in school and don't get caught up in all the partying to the point that your grades slip.

Of every one hundred men, ten should not even be here. Eighty are nothing but targets. Nine are real fighters, and we are lucky to have them, for they make the battle. Ah, but the One... One of them is a Warrior... He will bring the others back.

    "Wrong door, buddy!"

Let no man's ghost say my training failed him.

When I was 18 I was in the police academy for a few month:cool: But that was in the good old 70's.

Welcome! Don't get too wrapped up in your major at this time. Put in at least one year of study before declaring what discipline you will be seeking. Although a CJ degree is a degree, you need something in support of it. Look into accounting, management, English, etc. All will create a more rounded and developed background for you.

    Good luck!!

Welcome. Writing is a major part of what officers do. The photography you mentioned can come in real helpful on crime scenes. Be good, be safe.
