Hello: Excellent Web Site!
Sorry I didn't notice the introductory section until today. I'm a relative old timer who now runs a small town PD. I've been a cop for nearly 30 yrs working my way up the chain, Det. Sgt. Lt. and now Chief. I am primarily interested in management issues; specifically, what the boss does that makes the job more difficult for street cops, and I've written a few articles on these topics. Frankly, I sometimes can't believe how some departments treat the most important members of their organization, the street cops, e.g. shift work practices, discipline, policy & procedural issues, etc. Not because the boss is evil but just because "we've always done it this way." It comes from an ignorance of modern management practices and resistance to change (although sometimes the boss is evil.) Unions can also be part of the problem.
I'll be transitioning to the academic side sometime soon, finally putting a Ph.D. to work, and I want to gain experience with this kind of technology, this is an excellent website. My goal is to develop a site similar to this one devoted to broader political and justice issues. In the mean time its great to have access to a broad range of concerns involving LE. As part of a team that reviews PDs for compliance with professional standards and grants accreditation I now have an opportunity to help drive change.
Question: What do the green dots mean?
