I’m a 38 year old female from Louisville, KY now living in the land of the mouse. I majored in Criminal Justice for a year and a half before dropping out of the program (I was young and dumb, didn’t know for sure what I wanted). I’m older and wiser (I hope) and now I’m sure that a career in LE is what I want to pursue. My ultimate long term goal is to work in intelligence in DC. My short term is to get as much knowledge about LE as possible and have a job that makes a difference working in research and intelligence at a local LE agency. I’m also hoping to finally get my bachelors in C.J. The Sherriff’s Office has a Civilian Police Academy I’m attending in the fall so I can get in on some ride-a-longs and make some contacts. Any advice/words of wisdom you may have will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Welcome to the site, but I think your concept of intelligence work is a bit skewed. Intelligence is not the same thing as law enforcement, they're two very different animals. I know on TV you see Jack Bauer hanging out with the FBI, and in reality there are some cross-mixing at the federal level on national security matters, but working for a local police or sheriff's department typically won't give you any special skills desirable in the Intelligence Community (i.e. CIA, DIA, NSA, etc.).
